AHhhh.....now that is the real question isn't it? WHY do families do the things that they do to make genealogical research years later such a nightmare at times!!!
'Fraid I don't have an answer for that one. You're on the right track with the marriage though. Just that if you were to purchase it you'd have to run your search for John Robertson Fisher to a Lamont to find it. He was reporting and signing his own name that way at age 26....that's as far as the facts can go!

Help from another board, I have this:
1891 census: 18 Kenmure St. Glasgow: John R. Fisher age 23, brewers clerk living with his mother Margaret age 60 and his two sisters.
1901 census: 363 Victoria Rd. Glasgow: John R. Fisher age 35 mercantile Clerk with wife Margaret age 40 and son John B. age 6.
I have posted a picture of John in a uniform on the Army board here. Some say it is a Canadian Uniform.
