Commiserations I too have ancestors coming from Ireland at the same time & can go no further with them.
I will submit a tale or two to the site but I will change names to protect the innocent.
My Aunt was probably at school the same time as you Jennifer Waddell or you might have know Jim or Gordon.

Back again Joette

I was at CHS from 1957 until 1963. Does that help?

You would have been there then when Gordon & Alex were pupils. They lived in Mount-Blow & had been at Dalmuir.
Gordon became an Engineer & Alex like my Grandpa a Boilermaker.

Alas! The Old Clydebank High School website seems to have died. It did seem to be a promising site with lots of interesting information and photographs. I can only assume that running the site turned out to be a bigger job than its creators imagined. The Clydebank Story site disappeared a while ago so its becoming increasingly difficult to work in this area. If anyone has any knowledge of any useful sites or other sources of information I shall be very grateful to hear about them.

Hello Sam,

It would probably cost something for the domain name and if you lose interest or can’t afford to keep it alive it can just disappear without trace. There doesn’t even seem to be anything on the Internet Archive. Here’s a gravestone. http://www.woorank.com/en/www/oldchs.co.uk

As far as I can see TheClydebankStory has only its front page on the Internet Archive. This site received funding (University?) to set it up and shouldn’t have been allowed to fall over. http://web.archive.org/web/200608131050 ... story.com/

Here’s a site that is still alive but doesn’t seem to have gone anywhere. http://www.ourglasgowstory.com/index.php

TheGlasgowStory is still up and running.

There’s some good Clydebank stuff here.

All the best,
Alan

I am delighted to see that the Old Clydebank High School website has reappeared. I do hope it survives and thrives.

The Toughs were indeed butchers in Clydebank I'm trying to remember their slogan-"Our name is Tough but our beef is not" or some such-a bit before my time but my Granny was a customer.I think they were on Kilbowie Road near to Singers???

Hi Karen

"If it's Tough's it's tender" was the slogan on their butcher's shop in Kilbowie Road.

While the Old Clydebank High School website is again available it has not been updated since last June - not a very hopeful sign.

Sam

I have asked this in the past and as no one replied I assumed there is no one left to answer.
When I was 5 I lived at Wee Gordon St. I was taken to a school which I am sure was on Kilbowie Road. This was in 1933!
It was just a small grey brick school with pailings all around. I remember it well although my family moved to England a year later. My teacher's name was Miss Rankin (same name as mine).
