Hi Gary & Sarah,

The ones I referred to above are:
In one household: Mathew Alison (1)
A couple of households further down the same page: William (5), Robert (12) and John (14)

So that gives you:
  • JOHN ALLISON - Birth: 10 JAN 1828 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire 1841 census - Lochwinnoch, age 14
ROBERT ALLISON - Christening: 20 JUN 1830 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire 1841 census - Lochwinnoch, age 12
JEAN ALISON - Christening: 24 FEB 1833 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire 1841 census - Airdrie, age 9; with parents
WILLIAM ALISON - Christening: 21 JUN 1835 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire 1841 census - Lochwinnoch, age 5
MATHEW ALISON - Christening: 13 NOV 1837 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire presumed deceased by 1840
MATHEW ALISON - Christening: 05 JAN 1840 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire 1841 census - Lochwinnoch, age 1
HELEN ALISON - Christening: 26 MAR 1843 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire born after 1841 census
MARGARET ALISON - Christening: 17 AUG 1845 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire born after 1841 census
And the youngest 5 survivors are with their widowed mother in 1851.

All the best,

AndrewP

Greetings Gary.

Sorry mate. A term very common on TV these days, especially American. Common down here as well, possible not so common in Scotland.

When one goes visiting, and stays the night. Most often used when children go and stay the night at a mate's [good friend's] house. Some times associated with a Birthday. Some what similar [younger version ? ]to a pajama party, which involved staying the night.

Hi Gary
The number of times we have found children staying with grandparents, aunts, neighbours and sometimes folks who appear complete strangers (at least they are not in our family tree !). They probably didn't call them sleepovers in those days but they certainly were not in the house we expected them to be in :D
