Searching for the death of a James SHEDDEN, using the fuzzy matching option for the latter, b. 1822 +/- 3, for 1881 onwards in the County of Renfrew, should produce a short list, one of which is, -

1890 SNEDDON JAMES M 68 PAISLEY /RENFREW 573/00 0591

He's your man.

This is a classic misread by the indexer, with the "Sh" being read as "Sn". On looking at the original one can see how the "h" might be taken as "n" especially at the end of a long hard day of indexing.


I believe that the fuzzy matching variant on SP is in part at least based on the NameX search algorithm developed by ScotsOrigins and others.
