Re: Need help in finding my GG Grandfather
For what it's worth, I think James Mclean and Mary Logan were William's parents. Neil could have been an uncle or a cousin. Two of William's children were a James and a Mary. The one I'm curious about is Archibald. There are several Archibald Mcleans in the area who he could have been named after, but I'm not seeing a direct connection. You can make yourself a little crazy pursuing children's names. I've done the same thing in my family. One of my gg grandfather's died after the 1851 census, but before the 1855 registration law so I don't know who his parents were. I have a pretty good idea, but that one little piece of paper or gravestone that I need to confirm my thoughts is missing so I will probably never know for sure!

The children of James McLean and Mary Logan were as follows:
William's full name is the same as one of William McLean and Mary Donaldson's children in 1853.
Food for thought,

Re: Need help in finding my GG Grandfather
Thanks you for all of your investigating AndrewP. As you can see, there is no Neil to be found among William and Mary’s children, which I find puzzling, if in fact Neil McLean was William’s father as recorded on William’s 2nd marriage document in 1878. I have tried looking for a William Neil or a James Neil, marrying a Logan, but no luck! I’m not sure where to go from here?
It is because James McLean and Mary Logan had a son William Williamson McLean, and that William McLean and Mary Donaldson also named their 1st born son William Williamson McLean that I felt that James McLean and Mary Logan might be my GG Grandparents. That plus the fact that James and William's occupations were very similar, and the fact that a James McLean was a witness at William and Mary's 1st child's birth! I tried to find the death of James McLean (with a Mary Logan spouse), anytime after the birth of William's 1st child Ann in 1851, but was not successful.

Hi Carol: Thanks for your comments and thoughts. I feel better hearing you say that you think James and Mary are William's parents, as I was not sure if I was just reaching on this. I guess I am looking for that little clue that will prove my assumptions, but like you say, I may never find it. I keep looking over all the information that I have, thinking that I might be overlooking something. I just can't understand why William would have recorded Neil as his father, if in fact this was not the case. It is good to have your thoughts.
