Informant son William 1922

Post by Jack » Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:23 pm

Hi Jean,
Forgive me if my thinking here is all wrong - the old mind has ground to a near halt these last few months....

>William died 1922. Informant to his death was son William - not heard of before this.

I take it this means you never knew of a son William?

So If this wasn't a name error for Lewis or John,
and father William did indeed have a son William, then it would seem doubtful Jane was his mother?

Only for the reason that you say Jane doesn't have a son of that name with her in 1891, when she'd be about 62 yrs old.
(unless a son William was born say 1875-1885 (at a stretch), and was living with someone else on the censuses.

'Spose this needs to be asked -
Are you 100% sure that the Jane who died 1913 and the William who died in 1922 are both "yours"?

Hi Jack

No I didn't know about a son William until I found father William's d.c.

It's the husband, William, who is not with Jane in 1891.

I am 100% sure that the d.c. I have for William is the right one. The parents named on it are his parents. His father's name was Norman and there were not many Norman's around at that time.

I am 100% sure that Jane's d.c. is the right one too. It states that her husband is William McDonald, retired Police Messenger. Parents shown are the same parents that are on the m.c. It was the occupation that really clinched it for me.

Hi Jean,
Well i was right on one thing; my concentration has gone - forgetting the 1861 MC...

Still wonder where son William was in 1891 - i.e. if the name wasn't an error on the 1922 DC.
He'd have to be born before 1891 as Jane was about 60 yrs old in that year.
(ok, i know not impossible to be a mother after that age, but rather doubtful)
Any chance he could've been a grandson? Say a son of Lewis or John?

I think i'd best just go back to enjoying reading the posts, and not do any more replying for a while!
Cheers, Jack

Jack don't you dare think you can sit back and not answer posts! ....well ok you can if you need a rest....but it better be a short one!

Jean.....the only crazy thought that went zinging through my head....I spose you noticed that William was something like 30? when he married. I think it was...anyhow.....even though he is listed as a bachelor....what if he had fathered a child before marrying Jane  Long shot....but it would fit the story line. I was considering whether William might have been two timing Jane during the years of marriage but that is pretty outlandish. Altho we've had our merry chases in the past on this type situation...........hmmmmmm......

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean

They had at least 2 children before they were married in 1861.

Ann McDonald or Grant b 1854
Jane McDonald or Grant b 1860.

Then there is the elusive son, William, who could have been born before they were married or after they were married!!!!!!!!!!!

A few of this family have had "other relationships" along the way, so it wouldn't surprise me if William was "playing away"

Regards
Jean
