The Days That Are Gane (abbr)

................But the fervour o' daffin' grew chilly at last,
Sae we live in remembrance the joys o; the past,
An, think o' what changes an' scenes hae taen place
Since life's great arena we entered the race.
The beards o' some beardless companions o' yore
Noo glimmer like grass when the frost dew is hoar,
An' mony are sleepin' aneath the cauld stane
Wha gain'd our esteem in the days that are gane.

O' trials an' sorrows we've a' had a share -
But pleasures are sweetest when season'd wi' care !
We've aft done what after reflection ca'd wrang,
But each giddy act cost the bosom a pang.
Lookin' back - summing' up a' the ill an' the gweed,
We licht upon items uncomely indeed;
Yet 'tis certain we envy the conscience o' nane
That wad shudder to think on the days that are gane.

For Christmas I gave my Mother/siblings older nieces/nephews some Family History.I included Cenususes,Birth,MarriageDeath extracts.I also printed off the family tales I have posted here.
Well there wasnae a dry eye around which was not my intention.I wanted to share with them my joy&pride in our family & to feel what I do a definite connection to these long gone ancestors.
I love these people just as much as I love the ones I have known & lost.As I find out about they're life I cry, laugh love the samenessess & the differences in our exsistences.
The most wonderful was the physical description on the Ellis Island site of my Great-Uncle 5 11,fair auburn hair & grey eyes, fairish complexion.I could visualise this lovely man my Grandpa Jimmy's big brother & the feeling of love I felt for him was overwhelming.
I was a bit insulted when my sister-in-law thought my stories were copied off the internet-I didnae get my A pass in Higher English for nowt you know!!! I supposed I should be flattered she thought they were so good!

I lost my much loved Father on Boxing Day. At his funeral today I was able to share so much with his relatives. I am the story teller and I was so happy to be able to do that for them. I have had help from this forum and am indebted. If I didn't have the input from my friends here I would not have so much to tell.
Slainte to you all
much love,
Merlot

How very sorry I feel for your great loss Merlot. How wonderful it was that you were able to have a collection of history to share with your family. Being the storyteller is as great an honour and it sometimes is burden. I hope today you felt the support of each and every one of us fellow storytellers at your side.

Best wishes for the year to come...
Jean

Thank you Jean.
I was very proud to be the story teller today for my Father. He suffered from Dementia and could not understand what I told him, but I still told him. Thank you too for your good wishes, I appreciate that.

Merlot

Sorry for your loss.

I suppose I am the story teller in my family, I havent found anyone else researching our lot. At least my neice and sister keep asking me how I am going with my searching, so at least someone is interested. :D

What a difficult time for you, Merlot.

You must be specially grateful now that you took the trouble to collect so many family memories.

Bon courage
