Jus to add to the mix Stewie, my Auntie Mattie was Martha, but her husband called her 'Helen' :shock:

Again, Martha. My mother has a close friend Mattie who is really Martha.

My husband's great aunts were called Mattie & Tottie-We always thought that Mattie was Matilda but have no idea what Tottie was short for-any suggestions.

My Aunt known to everyone as Betty is actually Roberta born exactly 10 months after my Uncle Robert !!! I suppose after 10 children my Nana had run out of ideas for names.

Nothing springs to mind but... have you tried to find any official documents with their names on them? E.g. birth, marriage, death...? If you post the info you have, I'll bet you'll have the names in short order :wink:

I was at School with someone who was calle Tot ot Tottie and he was really Thomas, I think?
