Hi Daryl,
Glad to hear they are yours. May i ask how you knew father William was born Bothwell?
I make it mother Janet has died abt 1844 - 1851 (John was b abt 1844). Yes, she should be there in 1841.
(later - but the 1841 won't give an actual birthplace; see Census link at top of the TS page)
FreeCEN doesn't yet have 1841 Old Monkland online yet (well it is quite a bit of work!).

If you can manage to visit The Mitchell though you could trawl through the 1841 Old Monkland census film.
A fair number of pages - but time flies when you're enjoying yourself, especially as you know you most probably will find the family!
Staff are very helpful, so just ask if you're not too sure of anything.

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the info regarding the 1841 census. I took a trip into the library in Airdrie today to have a look at the 1841 census for Old Monkland, and guess what ? I found William & his family (including his wife Janet ! She turned out to be 10 years younger than her hubby, and I reckon that she died between 1845, when her youngest was born, and the 1851 census. I knew that William came from Bothwell as it's mentioned in a two of the census's.

Re William Rodger 1841 etc
Hi Daryl,
Well done on finding William & Janet in 1841 - hope it didn't take you too long...
I've checked the original 1881 census page where Jean found son James living at 25 Govanhill St.
His birthplace as Cambuslang is a transcription error - it says Calderbank... so that's sorted that mystery!

Hi Jack,
It didn't take long at all to find William et all! I knew his address in the 1851 census was in Calderbank, so I just looked it up again on the 1841 one. There were only two parts on the film that included that area, so I just checked them, and he had only moved a few doors down to the Ironworks cottages, in Calderbank. 10 minutes or so later, and I was a very happy bunny!
Now to find the elusive son William jnr! He was on the 1851 census, aged just 13 years, but after that I can't find him anywhere. I get the feeling that this lot were very shy!
