I was in NRH today and had a look at the RCE. It gives one more detail regarding the cause of death.

cause of death from original certificate
Fracture of Femur (33 days), Bronchitis, Hypostatic Pneumonia.

cause of death from RCE
Fracture of Femur, Chronic Bronchitis, Hypostatic Pneumonia (sustained as a result of being knocked down by a tramway car)

Thanks for the look up, I'm in limbo at the moment as the cert's coming up from England (to rule in or out John's find) are taking about 3 to 4 weeks to come because of the BBC program. I'm on day 27 now for a previous request for one, I think the postie is now beginning to wonder about me now. Do you think sitting on the doorstep is unreasonable..

I've had a good old hunt through my files and can't find any McGrory's yet as per the nephew reporting the death.

Anybody know what a nephew in law would be?? is this just a plain old nephew.

I cant find Josephs sister Maria/e anywhere either, I just wonder if she went to Ireland and married a McGrory and this is her son? maybe just maybe. I always find it strange that grandsons/daughter etc don't know the names of the gran and grandfathers.... I can see friends not knowing but family?

A nephew via marriage as opposed to via a blood relationship.

Hello Stuart,

27 days instead of 5 is not good, but I expect that into today's cynical, manipulative political world they will still claim that they met targets.

You can order certificates from the appropriate local Registry Office instead of ONS for the same money, but you should include a s.a.e. and payment is usually cheque only. Return of post is the norm in my experience. However, instead of the scan from the original book that ONS supplies, Register Offices provide a typewritten or modern hand-written version. The information is the same, but I just like to see the original writing despite the occasional problems in reading it.

My mother's sister married a guy, does this mean I am my aunt's nephew but his nephew in law? never heard of this before but this may be the maria/e link.

Hello Stuart,

I read his signature as McCrory, not McGrory. There is a reasonable chance that he is still alive.

Stuart I have to thank you for your confusion!! I've never before realized there would be a difference!! I have a William Allan appearing in a 1851 census with a family and he is listed as "nephew". I realize that this is supposed to be relation to the "head" but assumed it could be also to the wife. I wasn't sure which side of the family he might come in on. He also was informant on the DC for this same head of the family...and is listed as nephew once again. Pretty conclusive that William Allan is undoubtedly related to the man of the house isn't it??!!
