Hi Lesley and lainey
The two names I provided were just as Lesley points out. A chance to follow them through census records and hopefully to a Scottish DC. I thought I had found Peter's death after seeing a likely looking suspect on the 1881 census.....but it wisnae him!!
Lesley...as for the BIVRI records....this "copped" from the internet
"The records that comprise the index are
extracted records, which means that someone copied selected pieces of information from the original record. However, not all of the genealogically important information was extracted. Therefore, you should use the reference information provided in this index to locate the original record on microfilm and evaluate the original record yourself"
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Ladies
I am def going to do what you suggest. I will get either Alex or Peter [hopefully!] and track one all the way if poss. Jean, I was so excited, I confused myself. You say these boys are marked as Isabel, obviously Elizabeth was the name I needed dohhh! Its been a long day - what can I say lol..
I will do this tomorrow [day off work], and will let you know how I get on. I was talking to another chap who is local, and he thinks there was a pub locally called Maxwells in the village of Laurieston, which is next to Polmont. He thinks it was run or owned by an Annie Maxwell, I dont have an Annie that I have found, but it may be another way of looking at things, but I will try your way first of all
I really do appriciate your help, many thanks to both of you

Hi Jean and Lesley
Got up this morning determined to go with your suggestions. Alexander is not listed in the deaths, but I did find Peter!!! Yipee!!!
His death cert says he died 08/06/1866 Polmont, and that his parents were Robert Maxwell and Isabella Lawson - unfortunately not Elizabeth. I took your advice, and followed him in the 1861 census looking at occupations. In 1861 he is listed as only a coalminer, as I had feared. I didnt give up and went for 1851 and RESULT!!! He is listed as coalminer & PUBLICAN!! Just like my gr grandfather.... I kind of think this confirms the question now, do you??
Would you both take this as being confirmation of the same family?
Cheers to you both again

Hi Lainey
I'll stick my neck out here and say "probably"

! I can't see any other clear method of proof. All indicators are pointing to this conclusion. Not least of which not only have you failed to find the mother as Elizabeth...you've failed to find any proof at all of the existance of said Elizabeth other than the Death Certificate reference. I think it's as good as you'll get and you'll just have to live with it. Perhaps by further mapping out the families in that area you will have a clear picture of relationships.
Best wishes
Jean
PS...I think our Lesley has left for holiday so don't be alarmed if she doesn't reply for a bit....she's not ignoring you....honest

!

Hi Jean
Want to thank you for all your help. As you say, I think this is probably as good as it gets with whats available. Will enter them into my family tree as all one family, but with notes pointing out the obvious difference, and as you say, maybe time will tell in some other way.
Hope Lesley has a nice time and is visiting somewhere nice and warm! Hopefully she'll get the message when she comes back
Cheers for now and many thanks
Lainey
