Hi April

I live in Kilbarchan and know something of the church(es) history.
The seceders and free church combined to form a breakaway from the established church in the village but after a century or so decided to join the established church of Scotland. All records were sent to Edinburgh in the 1970s but there are gaps in the records which date back to the original breakaways.
The two old graveyards are not well documented either so some of the M.Is have been lost.
McKemmie is no longer a village name but there are still Borlands in the village.

I did get 2 booklets of MIs for Renfrew as I was hoping to find the parents. The only ones I found were James McKemmie's wife and daughter.

Thanks for the info April

I recently started a Kilbarchan Family history/Local history group and these are the kind of links we are hoping to make to follow village families in their moves to all parts of the world.
One member can trace her direct Borland line for 250 years in the village.
Fascinating stuff.

Hi April
My Lyons and Parkers were from Galston/loudon area. Here are the Borland families I know of:

Thomas Borland b. Abt 1825, (son of Thomas & unknown) d. 13 November 1859, Crooked Holm
& Janet Parker chr. 26 April 1829, Loudon, Ayr, Scotland, (dau. of John Parker & Janet Lyon) d. 20 November 1904, 248 Craigneuk Street, Dalziel, Lanark,
m. 30 April 1847, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
  • children:
Janet Borland b. Abt 1851, d. 7 May 1871, (bur. Loudoun Old Kirk)
    Andrew Borland b. Abt 1854, d. 4 November 1868
Jeannie Borland b. 1 March 1856, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland, d. 23 December 1857, (bur. Loudoun Old Kirk)
Alexander Borland b. 7 June 1858, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
    Thomas Borland d. After 1904
Hugh Borland b. Abt 1822, Kilmarnock (I think was son of Andrew Borland & Jean Miller), d. After 1866
& Jean Smith Lyon b. 9 May 1825, Wallhill (Ridding) Loudoun, (dau of Andrew Lyon & Mary Parker) d. 23 June 1907, 12 Church Lane, Galston, Loudon,
m.22nd September 1844, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
  • children:
    Andrew Borland b. Abt 1844
    Thomas Borland b. Abt 1847
    Mathew Borland b. 1851
    Jean Borland b. 1853, Kilmarnock
Mary Borland b. 13 June 1855, New Street, Riccarton
    Elizabeth Borland b. 11 June 1857
Margaret Borland b. 15 October 1859, Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland
Agnes Borland b. 20 January 1862, Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland
James Borland b. 27 July 1864, Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland
Matthew Mitchell Borland b. 13 December 1866, Orchard Street, Galston, Ayr
Janet Parker & Jean Smith Lyon, the wives of the above Borlands, are first cousins to each other. Hope this maybe fits in somewhere.

Best wishes
Lesley

You are so right, I got my vital records mixed up. I did manage once to research for someone by going to the state library, it was great, didn't even have to book, although I may not be so lucky if I tried again :(
