Glad I'm not the only one Joette  Too many coincidences to be coincidence - I couldn't write a book on the subject yet, but maybe between us we could manage a fair sized leaflet

Best wishes

So, when my son comes home from work and I show him this to prove that talking to long dead rellies is NOT a sign of deteriorating faculties, but is actually quite normal for us serious minded and dedicated family hunters - He'll believe me :?:

He will believe me, won't he :?:

Stewie,

Couldn't help noticing that you're looking for Mathiesons. Where are yours from? Mine are from Kilsyth, STI.

To everyone else - sorry for hijacking the thread.

Christine

Donna,
I am afraid Samuel Reid the Irish connection married in Scotland to a Scot.
I know his parents John Reid and Jane McNeice from his MC.
they didn't come to Scotland and having very common names I got no where.
Samuel Reid married Grace McCredie(Spelled a dozen ways) at the Independent Church in Calton in 1869
Died 221 London Road Camlachie in 1911
His parents were deceased on his MC
So if anyone knows anything about this Reid I would like to hear from you.

to all of you who talk to the ancestors I wouldn't dare.

Everyone thinks Ahm oaf ma rocker as it is

Hi Stewie,

Thanks for your reply. As few of my Mathiesons appear to have left Kilsyth, Stirlingshire I guess we're not related.

Regards............Christine

Hi Wini,

It might just be coincidence and I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase but there is a Jane McNeice who marries in County Down in 1836 listed on AncestryIreland.com

I then checked to see if there was a John Reid married in around the same time and, lo & behold, there is a John Reid who married in 1836 in County Down.

There are umpteen John Reids as you well know and the only reason I've plumped for County Down is that that is the only county which has a marriage with both surnames at about the right sort of time.

Just looked again and there are two civil marriages listed for John Reid, in Antrim, in 1845 & 1848, when I look at Jane McNeice there are also two civil marriages at that time.......unfortunately they don't give you the partner's name.

Sorry if you've already gone down that route, it's just this is my new website to play with.....not that I've had anymore luck than the one marriage find!

Good luck
Donna

Stew
Where did your Mathiesons come from?
StewL wrote:Like the others I do the same. I will leave one lot alone for a while and go on the hunt for others. Then when that comes to nothing, or I cant find who I am looking for, then I will wonder off to some other distant line. Just the other day I got a 1841 census page for my Matheisons which gave me a few more children. Just a taste to keep me going, so now I have that line back to around before 1800? Then I went to my ggggrand aunt's husbands line again back to around 1800. :D and some more children to boot. :D
I have Mathiesons from Glenlivet - Inveravon, who may have originally come from Stornoway. Sound familiar at all?

Sorry, Stew
I have just finished the rest of the thread and see that your Mathiesons are from Central Scotland. So no connections there.
Cheers

Thanks for that Donna,

Samuel would have been born between 1845 and 1847 so that County Down in 1836 is a possibility, now I have a county to start with I can go on with that even if it only eliminates a county for me.

I will see if I can find any siblings

Thanks once again
