On the 1901 census record it's tempting to read Robert's place of birth as Auchinleck (in Ayrshire), but there's an Auchinloch in Cadder parish in N Lanarkshire, and looks like it's one of the mining villages in Mavis Valley.

On the 1901 census, note how the enumerator hasn't a county name alongside the place of birth for Robert, but there is such for the next three entries that involve Caithness, Midlothian and Ayrshire, - in other words I'd suspect that the place of birth for Robert is in Lanarkshire.

Thanks David. Extra roo meat for you. Auchinleck vs Auchinloch. I'll go check that one ...

My next challenge the MUIR Family Sanday, Orkney. I am sure my Muirs came from there. So many Betsy's, I could fill a hat full of 'em.

Bron

& the mystery of Robert Mcarthur // McCartney continues...wife Marion Allison MUIR. I have Marion, Robert and their daughter, my Mum's Mother, within recent history. That is, have docs (GROS & Family) & have my Mother (83 years of age & not accustomed to foolish questions!) , nodding her head defiantly. Yes, no, yes & yes. Got it Mum.

I'll work the McCartney Mcarthurs out now and Thank you.

However, another MUIR mystery is emerging-
