Hi Christine,

Could you tell me the names of Robert Burns and Elizabeth Forrester's children please?
I'm still looking for confirmation of my Kennedys.

Hi Val,

From a parent search on IGI the 8 children of Robert BURNS and Elizabeth FORRESTER are:
Janet 1805, Elizabeth Stevenson 1807, Elizabeth Stevenson 1809, John Cross 1812, James 1814, Isobel 1817, David 1819 and Robert 1824. These are all extracted records, but you will notice there is also a submitted record for Robert, which, interestingly, has him christened before he was born.

Robert, b 1824 (my 3xG-grandfather), didn't die until 1899 so it's possible your Janet also survived until Statuatory Registration in which case you will be able to get her death certificate (including her parents names) from SP.

Can you help me with any more information about this family?
I have nothing about them at all and Australia is a long way away.
Interested in Robert & Elizabeth, their children and their families.
I am a Wallace and my family came from Edinburgh. My gg grandparents were Albert Wallace and Janet Burns Kennedy and Albert's parents were Thomas Wallace & Mary Aitken. Any relation to your Wallaces?

Hi Val,

At this stage I don't have any more info about the siblings of Robert BURNS (born 1824).

I'm not sure how much you know about searching Scottish records, but it's absolutely amazing how much you can do online. Most of my research has been done online by me while I've been living in Switzerland. I'd recommend Scotlands People as your first port of call (see the Sources tab on this site).

My WALLACEs are unlikely to be connected to yours - no Edinburgh link that I've seen.

Hi all from another Kennedy/Burns descendant from Australia.

My ancestors David Kennedy and Janet Burns and at least 4 of their children immigrated to Australia per the ATHLETAE in 1855 .
Albert Wallace, David Jnrs friend, and Miss Ellen Gillies, (who was pregnant to David Jnr and gave birth on board the ship) were on the same ship. Albert Wallace and Janet Kennedy (Jnr), and Ellen Gillies and David Kennedy (Jnr) were all married at the same time on 1 Jan 1856.
David and Janet Kennedy Snr, AND their children moved from Melbourne to Beechworth Victoria, later in 1856, where they were successful enough in their small gold mining efforts to buy property.
David Kennedy Jnr and Ellen went on to have 8 children before her accidental death from burns in 1872, and Albert and Janet (Kennedy) Wallace had 9 children born in and around Beechworth area.
I am descended from David and Ellen Kennedy, and their eldest son David Kennedy and Mary Anne Osburn.
I am happy to make contact and share information with other descendants of the Kennedy and Burns Families.

Hi Mary,
David Kennedy and Janet Burns are my great great grandparents and after many years thinking the Janet Burns born in Kilsyth was my GG grandmother I have found out that That Janet Burns died in Scotland so did not come to Australia. Have you any info on Janet Burns?

My great grandparents were Albert Wallace and Janet Burns Kennedy and my grandparents were Matthew Wallace and Clara Farrelly.
I know little about your Ellen and David so would love to be in touch.

Hi Everyone

During this enforced time at home I am back hunting for my Janet Burns. She is NOT the daughter of Robert Burns & Elizabeth Forrester as that Janet died in Scotland and was married to someone else. I have the details somewhere if anyone is interested.
Janet was supposed to be from Kilsyth when she married David Kennedy but they married in Falkirk on 19 November 1830.
I have come to a dead stop on my Janet Burns so hope someone can help.
