Sorry Ellen - now't to be seen. I've had a look at the neighbours of the Davidsons in case there was an error in the names - nope, nothing doing. I've looked at passenger lists in case they went away for a while - nope. I've looked at the US 1880 census in case I missed them on the passenger lists - nope.

I think they must have been sitting with the light out when the census man came.

Best wishes
Pinkshoes

Hi Ellen

Well! These occupations haven't helped have they?

If he was in the production of machine printed cloth he may have been unable to continue that line of work due to ill health and been forced to find alternative employment. I would hazard a guess that his death was from Phthisis (TB) and labouring work would be too much for him.

Calico printers would not need to move away for work, so that idea is knocked on the head.

I'm inclined to agree with Pinkshoes that they were hiding behind the net curtains where they could dodge the enumerators probably thinking it was the rent man.

Have you tried variations on the spelling of Anderson or used wildcards in your searches ? Andersen/Andurson/Andursson/Andersson
I would enter And*r*n which would catch almost all the variant spellings.
I have Anderson in my own tree and was caught out a few times and ended up spending a fortune before I twigged.
