Hello Lesley,
Do you know that the boys survived? Which one was your ancestor? There are a couple of possible deaths for David before 1861, but I don't see any for John. Did they both have their father's surname on the birth record or might they be listed under Speedie?
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Rutherford Family Help
Hi Sarah
Both sons survived. David born 1859 is my Great Grandfather, he died in Perth, Scotland in 1925. His brother John born 1857 both at Paul Street Perth, died in Dunoon, Scotland in 1907. They are both listed as illegitimate on their birth certificates.
I just can't seem to find them or their father John Rutherford on the 1861 census at all. Their father was born in 13 October 1829 in Forgandenny. His father was John Rutherford and mother Elizabeth Wilson.
any help would be appreciated
Regards Lesley

Re: Rutherford Family Help
Hi Lesley,
Do you know what John's occupation was? It would help to weed him out from all the other John Rutherfords.
Cheers,
Sarah

Re: Rutherford Family Help
Hi Sarah
Their father John was a Baker Journeyman and my grandfather David speedie Rutherford born 1859 was a shoemaker/ musician and John speedie Rutherford born 1857 was also a baker. I have the sons on most of the census records, its just the 1861 that I can't seem to find. Their mother Mary Speedie/Speedy ( seems to be 2 different spellings for the name) was living with her mother and 3 brothers at 13 Paul Street, Perth in 1861 and her Occupation was a Cotton Winder.
Any help would be appreciated
Kind regards Lesley
