Hi Anne,
You mentioned -
>1861 could not find the entry for 31 Centre Street. on SP. Did you find them elsewhere??
Ans - I found Ann BARR 50 and family in Des Garrity's useful 1861 LKS census name index.
Then, with the census number, took details from the microfilm at The Mitchell Library.
-
>1881 - 10 So. Coburg St., (Have CDs for 1881 census, but it wasn't on these, found the details on SP)
Ans - that's odd... Ann BARR 72 comes up no bother on my own CD (Scottish Lowlands).
-
>As yet have not found Anne Barr's death cert.
Ans - next time i'm at Park Circus i'll have a look, but not guaranteed to find!

Re: Re Barr family
Thanks for the offer, I live outside Glasgow, and do go to Park Circus sometimes. Unfortunately, I do not drive, and have problems with public transport, but as long as I am nice to my sister, I can get a lift. So If you find it easily then good, but please do not go out of your way to search for my GGG granny. I am sure you have many others in need of your help.Jack wrote:Hi Anne,

Hi Anne,
You'll notice Ann's forename is as Mary, but that's what it says.....
Address is same as the 1881 census, where daur Ann was as Jane.

1881 DC 644-12. 855 (Gorbals)
Mary BARR [68] d. 28 OCT 1881 at 10 South Coburg Street, Glasgow.
Widow of Robert BARR, iron foundry labourer.
Parents - Donald GILLIES (dcd) printer & Mary m/s CHRYSTAL (dcd)
Informant - Ann CALDWELL, daur.

I'd some difficulty trying to read the 1891 from a print out.
But you may already have these censuses - father Hugh as born Stranraer 1891, Ireland 1901.
He died 11 Dec 1901.

I am amazed, to say the least, that you found the death cert for Ann Gillies or Barr. I doubt if I would have got it so quickly.
I really am very grateful for this info. Another brick wall broken down.
Wish I had time to go online and download the certs. now, but unfortunately a couple of other things need my attention first. Will go online soon.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Re Barr family
Hello again Jack
Just thought would mention, discovered why could not find Ann Barr at 31 Centre St. Using the info you gave, searched for the lodgers at this address, and found easily, but lodgers names were at top of a new page. The family were on previous page. Contacted GRO, as I was sure indexing was wrong. Indexing was as Bell not Barr. No wonder I could not find her. Got a refund, thankfully.
After your help with Ann's death, luck continued. Found death of husband Robert Barr....... Success - Feb 1861. I now have his parents details. Death was reported by a brother-in-law, so now have another lead. Now researching around 1780, my earliest period so far.
Thanks again

Re: Re Barr family
Hi Anne,
Thanks for the update, and glad you got a refund.
Barr as Bell indeed !
But saying that, Ancestry has Ann BARR as... Ann BUN
Well done that you've found Robert's DC!
Actually I didn't know you were still to find him - otherwise i could've had a wee look for him too!
I've got Barr ancestors myself (from Paisley) and they can be a bit difficult to find at times....
Wishing you continued success!
Cheers - Jack

Re: Barr
There are siblings of Mgt Barr (1827), whose details I am still researching. Can you tell me names of parents for your Margaret Barr (1857). Perhaps we can then find a connection.kc50 wrote:Hi Ann

Re: Barr
Sorry I have not replied sooner. As yet, James and Martha, are not names which mean anything. If I come across any connection with your family, I will be in touch.kc50 wrote:Hello again
My Margaret Barr's parents were James and Martha. Don't have any info on them as yet.
