Joette I hope the person he did time for was my rellie as I have a poor house application which states the wife had been assualted on numerous occassions by the husband. I haven't found a report of him getting dealt with by the justice system though might have a harder look when I find the time.

Hi McBlondie

Got arrested  for not standing up when the National Anthem was played! I never heard of such a thing. I remember when I was small and they played the National Anthem in Canada at Theatres and Sports Events. Whether you stood up or stayed seated was an option that you could take. I never dreamed that there was a law against not standing up for such things. Does such a law really exist?

Regards

Sheila

Hi

I too remember standing up for the National Anthem at the end of cinema or theatre programmes and I was born in the 50s. However I don't know of any specific crime of not standing up. Could have been thought to be a breach of the peace I suppose.

rush out or stand up

Post by derekfrom france » Sat Jan 20, 2007 9:14 am

hi i always remember as a boy rushing out as soon as the credits for a film came up before the national anthem for south of the border came on
the longer the film the more credits came up for a film like ZULU you had the chance to be half way up the street before it came on .one question do they still play it in cinemas cheers all? at least for flower of scotland our national teams know the words and sing it which is not the case over here except for the rugby squad which reminds me not long now till scotland win the RUGBY WORLD CUP.

Hi Derek
do they still play it in cinemas

I've not heard it played in the cinemas since I was a child. As far as I rememebr it may also have been played in the theatre at the annual panto visit, I think.

Best wishes
Lesley

What a rebel. Why was that if I may ask?

Derek, they do not play it in cinemas and I am too young to have heard it being played there. :D

As far as I remember, I was in quite a fragile emotional state, having just seen Disney's "Snow White and the seven Dwarfs"
I think it might have been my first ever visit to the cimema. Anyway it had been an emotional rollercoaster: I'd been terrified to death by the "wicked queen" and I'd cried my eyes out (with full sound effects  ) at the happy ending .... I expect I'd just had enough for one afternoon, and being asked to stand up when I felt so fragile was probably the last straw!

Best wishes

I think I may have seen that once or twice. I can see your point.

Also my first visit to the cinema was to see Jurassic Park when it first came out.

Crikes - tht must have been some introduction to the cinema!!
I think I could probably handle Snow White OK now - I was only about 3 or 4 at the time of the Snow White incident. ......Mindyou, having said that, I think I was the only adult to need a hanky coming out of the cinema back when ET was released!

Best wishes
