Hi Annette,
I wonder if I am looking at the right thing? The image I have, is a pageful of names.
This is exactly what it says:
June
5. Allardice Robert Muir of Drumshade by Helen Barr(next two letters could be 'et' or 'it) (born 12 Decr. 1848 Betsy
Is there something else that I should be looking at?
Kind regards
Sheilavee

The OPR records won't but the statutory births should.
If you look at say the birth of Charles in 1865 it should state the date and place of marriage.
Kind regards,

Thanks Annette,
After looking at the OPRs, I looked at the birth of Duncan born 1856,and of course there were no marriage details on that one. I never thought to check out the rest of the children.
I have found a place called Borthwick near Gorebridge just south of Edinburgh. Does anyone know of another one anywhere? If that is the right one, I wonder why they were so far from 'home' especially as their baby (my g/granny) was born just 4 weeks later in Kirriemuir. (Where Robert came from and also where all their family were born.) Maybe it was because of the baby that they went so far away to get married. It's maybe worth checking the 1841 census to see if Helen was there with her family then. (Just thinking aloud again!)
One good thing has come out of this and that is I have broken down one of my brick walls. I have the marriage, now if only I could find the birth of Helen .... !
Many many thanks! ... Sheilavee

Hello again!
There doesn't appear to be any record of Robert Allardice and Helen Barrie's marriage anywhere apart from on the image of the birth of their children on SP. Can anyone tell me where I should look to find proof of this marriage? It is supposed to have taken place in Borthwick in 1848.
Thanks .. Sheilavee

Sheilavee,
Might seem like a silly question, but are the entries above and below worded the same way? This is exactly what it says:

5. Allardice Robert Muir of Drumshade by Helen Barr(next two letters could be 'et' or 'it) (born 12 Decr. 1848 Betsy

Hi Mary
I am looking for proof of the marriage. The image I gave was for the baptism of their daughter Betsy (my g/granny)
Robert Allardice lived at Muir of Drumshade, which is in Kirriemuir. Sometimes Helens surname seems to have been changed to BARRET instead of Barrie - as it was for Betsys baptism and also the next two siblings.
On one of Betsys siblings birth image in 1865, I found the details of the parents marriage in Borthwick in November 1848 - 4 weeks before Betsy was born.
The only Borthwick that I know of is near Gorebridge which is south of Edinburgh. Betsy was born in Kirriemuir in Angus.
Her father Robert Allardice was born in Kirriemuir in 1817 and according to censuses Helen Barrie was born in Larbert, Stirling.
I'm just not sure where to look for proof that this marriage actually took place!
Regards .. Sheilavee

I know, but some birth/baptism entries say something like "lawful" or "law" if the parents were married, or "natural" if they weren't. I just wondered if any of the other entries on that page had this.sheilavee wrote:Hi Mary

One of my rellies got his marriage date wrong by a year when he registered his son's birth! On one of Betsys siblings birth image in 1865, I found the details of the parents marriage in Borthwick in November 1848 - 4 weeks before Betsy was born.
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that their marriage isn't recorded! Up to 1855 there was no requirement to do so. Also, if they were Catholic or not Church of Scotland, the entry might never have been made on the OPR's.I'm just not sure where to look for proof that this marriage actually took place!

Hi sheilavee,
Do you know if Helen was buried in Stirling?
As she died in Stirling 21 April 1916, the Cemetery Records Office would have a note of which Cemetery she was buried in, inckuding who else (if anyone) was in the same lair.

I doubt if they would know if there's a stone but if you find she is buried somewhere in Stirling(shire), let me know where, including the section & plot/lair number and I'll try and get a wee photo of her final resting place for you.

Hi Anne
Thankyou so much for that.
I have heard that she is indeed buried in Stirling, and that her son Charles is maybe with her. Charles died 1/1/1916, the result of a railway accident, so that was just over 3 months before his mother died.
I have sent an email to see if I can get the information about the plot etc, so I will let you know when I hear back from them.
Thanks again
