OK, please, please, calm down out there, there could have been some entirely innocent explanation (couldn't there :?:  )

The words "Pigs" and "Fly" randomly wandered into my mind just as I read that part
But what would the Muppets say about flying pigs, and even "Pigs in Space" ??

Ca canny here, please, as you're referring to my great-granddaddy John Webster, - an aristocrat  , - he was a heid ploughman in the Mearns before he transferred his horse management skills to the transport (carting) of various materials, - despite which, in the absence of any info to the contrary that has come down the generations, I might just accept the truth of your reaction :!:

P.S. I've been raking through files for the 'official phrasology' for 'the sin of fornication' - can you remember the actual term? (I think it was at that point I couldn't contain myself any longer!)
There are many various different, and equally "in your face" terms for such an "illegitimate" birth, - all such despite the fact of perfectly legal "irregular" marriages in Scotlland, - "irregular" only in the sense of not being in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, and other presbyterian churches in Scotland, - such so-called irregular marriages being perfectly legal as regards Scots Law.

NB Unlike the different situation in England, - once a bastard, always a bastard :!: :!: , - the situation in Scots Law has always been that the subsequent marriage of the parents, always assuming that they were free to marry at the date of the conception of the child, automatically legimated that child, from the date of birth !!, - and, from 1855 onwards, regardless of an appropriate RCE entry, - Register of Corrected Entries entry, - in such a case relating to the subsequent marriage of the parents, - as there was no legal requirement in Scots Law to add an annotation to the birth of the child in relation to the subsequent marriage of the parents !

Hi Anne

I have PM'd a message to you. I hope that I did it right.

I can understand your breaking down over some of those old records. If I had been with you I would have done the same. They really took things very seriously in those days didn't they, or was it some form of entertainment.

I looked up Antenuptial in my dictionaries and couldn't find it. Does it mean something like Prenuptial? :-k

Regarding Denny, are there two Dennys? One in Falkirk and one in Stirlingshire?

Hi sheilajim,

Denny is in Stirlingshire. In the current local government structure, Denny is part of Falkirk Council. The town of Denny is approximately midway between the towns of Stirling and Falkirk.

Hi Christine and Anne

I wonder if I was the only one that thought that there were two Dennys.
