Re: Euphan as a given name.....
Greetings from NZ.
As Euphemia and it’s pet names were handed down through my Lanarkshire Roots, I did a quick FreeCEN search of the 1851 Lanarkshire Census. The results surprised me. They were as follows.
Euphan = 2 results –
DYKES Euphan F63 Angus - Arbroath / Hutchestown.
PATERSON Euphan F10 Lanarkshire – Airdale / New Monkland.
Euphemy = 2 results –
KELLY Euphemy F18 Lanarkshire - Glasgow /Hutchesontown.
PATERSON Euphemy F75 Clakmannanshire – Alloa / Anderston.
Euphemia = a whopping 749 in Lanarkshire alone.

Re: Euphan as a given name.....
I have Euphem Leitch and Euphan Leitch born to the same couple (I am assuming the first born died). This was in Early 1800's in Glassary, Argyll. Their Dad was Archibald Leitch. Another Archibald Leitch was known by a different name years later......Ooh I can dream, can't I????
Researching: Easton ( Renfrewshire, Dunbarton and Glasgow), Corr (Londonderry and Glasgow), Carson (Co. Down, Irvine, Ayrshire and Glasgow), Logan (Londonderry and Glasgow)

Re: Euphan as a given name.....
I have one Euphan and several euphemia's in different lines it appears to be one of those names or variants which was popular only for a short time.
Several of those websites which specialise in baby names list it as one of the variants associated with Euphemia ... One example is http://www.mybaby.net.au/baby-name-full ... an/63107/1

Here's my tuppence worth, for all it's worth.
At present transcibing the 1851 Census for Argyllshire. Had to email my man in charge of things to ask him if Femmy was a real girls name, or were my eyes playing tricks on me. It was creeping up in quite a few households.
Reply was yes, another form of Euphemia!

Hi, I have Euphan in my family. Checking google, it seems it is short for Euphemia. All I wanted to know is if it was male or female. So, I guess it is female.

Re: Euphan as a given name.....
I have found two entries on ScotlandsPeople. The first is the Banns contract between William Grundistone and Effie Davidson. They are later married and her name is recorded as Euphan Davidson. Same person but his and her parishes.
