Thanks Jean,
The hints lead to these censuses.
As you say two McLEAN / KENNEDY marriages.
And both men James & William are from the same place in Fife.
Also - the LDS submitter has the same Film Nos etc for both of the marriages....
But why are these two marriages not in the IGI as Extracts? :?
Maybe neither couple did actually marry...?

Thanks everyone,

I have a copy of the BC for a JOHN KENNEDY McLEAN , born August 23rd 1866 Dalmellington, son of James McLean & Sarah Kennedy. Unfortunately I can't quite decipher the date of their marriage, Oct 10th 1856 or 1857 @ New Monkland..where is that?

Also marriage cert for a John McLean [coal miner] , son of James McLean [miner] deceased . & Sarah Kennedy dec.John married Elizabeth Walker [daughter of James Walker & Janet Watson Oct 30th 1896.

IGI shows a sister to Sarah , Ann McLean Kennedy, born abt 1841 , who married David Cheyne 11 July 1873 New Monkland.

All I can find for Helen Bain /Bann is on the IGI is a marriage to John Kennedy Aug 12th 1828 Girvan

Again, my thanks for your help

Hullo Brenda!

New Monklands is in Lanarshire. Nowadays the town is called AIRDRIE. My own ancestors were miners there, unfortuanately, none with your ancestors surnames.

The three entries for the marriage on the International Genealogical Index gives the date as 1856.

Best wishes

McLean - Kennedy

Post by Jack » Wed Feb 28, 2007 7:37 pm

Hi Brenda,
Well done on finding Ann KENNEDY's marriage to David CHEYNE in 1873. :D
And like her sisters Sarah & Helen, it too is an LDS submission....
At least one LDS member has an interest in your family!

Here are the girls' brother Robert KENNEDY's marriage to Christina McLEAN.
It's an extract - hooray! But it also has an LDS submission for Patna which is near Straiton.
*Christina is the sister of *James & *William McLean who married Robert's sisters Sarah & Helen.
So looks like 2 brothers & 1 sister McLEAN, marrying 2 sisters & 1 brother KENNEDY.
-
ROBERT KENNEDY & CHRISTINA MCLEAN
Marriage: 28 DEC 1871 Straiton, Ayr, Scotland [Extract - also submission]
--
James McLEAN & Sarah KENNEDY - 17 OCT 1856 New Monkland [LDS submission]
William McLEAN & Helen KENNEDY - 27 DEC 1858 New Monkland [LDS submission]
David CHEYNE & Ann KENNEDY - 11 JUL 1873 New Monkland [LDS submission]

Maybe all 3 married irregularly, but didn't register their marriages?
On the Search Tab at the top of the TS page type in Keywords > irregular AND marriages <
You'll find a good few posts in which they are discussed.

Here's the McLEAN family in 1851 & 1861 - just to show the names of the 3 * children mentioned above.

ps, you were asking where New Monkland is. If you go to this page of the NLS site, and select Sheet 31 Airdrie.

http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotlan ... _list.html

New Monkland Parish is the large yellow area in the centre - there is also a village of the same name.
Just left click on any area to zoom in.
pps, ah, just noticed - you've already got the answer. Thanks Catriona!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH
I have quite a bit of data on the ancestors and descendants of James McLean & Sarah Kennedy, well the McLean side at least , but nothing on John Kennedy or Helen Bain /Bann
So I'll check out all the info you all have so generously provided and hopefully will find something.

Thanks again
