that is interesting Annette!! the names Ian and Agnes figure down the McLachlan side, tho the name marion throws me a wee bit.....and if he had remarried someone called Rebecca, that would explain where that name comes in with my gt grandads first daughter....

I've just phoned mum about this info and she says that James' daughter Rebecca would have been in the rough age group of my granny so 1897 would tie in with that for her....

I think once I've had a good look at this one I might find that they are mine!!! so thank you ever so much for finding that for me!!

Hi Jill,

Another one that must be worth a look at - the death of Rebecca MacLachlan, age 34, in Kincardine (Perthshire) registration district in 1903.

All the best,

Hi Jill
Ellen & Helen can be interchangeable. I spent ages once looking for a Helen... who, of course, turned up as an Ellen!

Imagine you are the Registrar or Enumerator and either name is said - they sound very alike.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hello Jill,

I've tried searching for *el*en with Hood and variations of McLachlan but no joy.

Regards,

As for spelling...try M*l*l*n.

It will catch other names like McClellan, but also variations of McLaughlin, such as McGlaughlin. Try McLaggan too.
