Hi Stew

Thanks for your efforts. The Maria born in Bodvean (spelt in many ways) in 1815 is my 3xgreat grandmother. As far as I know she is their only child.

As for the Kirkmichael Adam, whilst marriage at 16 is probably possible, it is, I agree, rather unlikely. However, I would put money on it that the Adam born 1780 and the one married in 1796 were related. Another unrelated Scottish line I have only used about half a dozen boys names for around 200 years. The same first names just seem to keep cropping up.

The search continues...

Richard

It is more than possible the Adam McKergow m 1796 to Elizabeth Carter in Ayr, Ayr is related (sorry for error with his wifes name, must have been thinking of one of my lots Helen :D ) Given the rarity of the name with that spelling in Scotland.

Lucky you, when I first started this game I was looking for Alexander Stewart  what a nightmare that was, with every other wain in Scotland called Alexander Stewart

Currently I am searching for a name that is quite rare, comparatively in Scotland who all lived in same area, just a case of proving relationships

Good luck with your researching and dont hesitate to ask on the forum, there are many more who are more experienced than me, who are willing to help, thats what Talking Scots is all about.

Hi RChristopher, I am a decendant of Adam Mckergow here in Wales. He married Maria in Wrexham, and then moved to Boduan and worked as a gardener, had two daughters Elizabeth and Maria.

Hello Glyn, and welcome to TalkingScot,

It appears that Richard hasn’t visited the forum since 2007. If you don’t get a response to your posting you could try sending him a Personal Message.

I had a look in the 19C newspapers and found a death notice in Baner ac Amserau Cymru (Denbigh), Wednesday, March 20, 1861.

MARWOLAETHAU.
9fed, Maria Mac Kergow, Pen Rhos, Llaniestyn, Lleyn gynt, o Bodvean Hall, yn 80 mlwydd oed.

Which Google translates unusually neatly into:

DEATHS.
9th, Maria Mac Kergow, Pen Rhos, Llaniestyn, Lleyn formerly of Bodvean Hall, at the age of 80.

All the best,
Alan
