Just had a look at FREECEN and see you dilhema  regarding the surname.

I think the Margaret you found with the 60 year old Donald may be Margaret Main. Obviously I can't be positive but the birth years of the younger members of the household tally.

Kind regards,
Annette M
Hi Annette,

Can you tell me where you found the name Margaret Main? I'm still fairly new to genealogy so I appreciate all the tips I can get.

Thanks,
Susan

Hello Susan,

I looked for the birth of the Catherin(e) in the household at www.familysearch.com within a range of 5 years of the census info. The only one that came up was to Dond Patience and Margt Main.

I don't know why but a parent search does not show the other 2 - Donald and John. I then looked for them using the same method as Catherine.

Kind regards,
Annette M

They also had a son David.

DAVID PATIENCE
Male

Event(s):
Birth: 03 JUN 1822

Christening: 16 JUN 1822 Avoch, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland

Parents:
Father: DONALD PATIENCE Family
Mother: MARGARET MAIN

Does his age match?

Later - sorry just realised he's 30 years too young.

No, mine was born in 1791. But thanks, perhaps this Donald was no connection to my David after all.

I am currently using FREECEN and patiently browsing through each page to see if there is a Donald and Margaret closer to the correct age (He should be 68 in 1841). It is possible that he was already dead and Margaret was a widow. So I will just keep looking for a while.

Thanks for your help.

Susan

Susan

As you are aware of the age rounding in the 1841 census. Dont forget that a lot of our land deid yins had a bit of a habit of fudging their ages (usually down  ) They were not averse to telling porkie pies to try to fit better with their spouses ages
Like everyone on this forum, we have found some age variations on census and even marriages

Yes my GGGreat-Grandfather either claimed or was wrongly enumerated as 30 when he was in fact in his sixties-hard to telle xactly as his age varies from Census to Marriage & to Death.Remember they were not such a documented society & may have not truly remembered their age.
