Hi Carol,

I checked through the pre-1855 MI books for all the local Churchyards but there's no France listings in any of them.

Obviously he could be in any one of them but would only show up if there was a stone.

There are four possible places: Denny Churchyard, Dunipace Old Churchyard and Broompark Churchyard (which are local to Denny/Fankerton)

Dennyloanhead Churchyard (which would be the nearest to Haggs). has only about half a dozen stones left - the church is in the process of being re-developed in flats, but I transcribed the burial records a few years ago and there's no mention of the name France.

The first burial in Denny Cemetery was in the 1880's so he definately won't be there. I listed all the stones in an earlier message above. These were obviously a good bit later than the family you're looking for but it would appear quite a lot of the members of the France family stayed in Denny. (Purely speculation that they're descended from the same family!).

If it would help, I could send you the full MI's, rather than just an index. There might be a few hints in some of the names that would mean something to you that wouldn't necessarily mean anything to anyone else. If this is something you'd be interested in, send me a PM with your personal e-mail address and I'll send them through.

Anne
