Hi Anne,

I hope you can prove this is your Christina somehow. I had a look around for the Houstons to see if there was anything interesting about them and found this database http://www.homeofhouston.com/deathhou.PDF which shows that John CAMPBELL HOUSTON ended up in Victoria, Australia, married and had kids out here. ( I haven't done very much Australian research, but Victoria seems to be one of the states which doesn't seem to have very much free info on the net.) I don't know how or with whom he came out, but maybe someone else might be able to find these details.

I wonder if the families had any contact once they were all out here? Is there any older members you can ask? My great aunt ( by marriage, no blood relations from that generation left) denied any knowledge of an alias my family were using up until they left scotland, but as soon as I found most of the details myself she amazingly remembered!

Hi Karen
Thanks for the Houston information. Have had a quick look for the arrival of John C Houston into Victoria to ascertain the timeframe hoping Christina may have travelled with him. No luck as yet but will keep looking. No knowledge of the Houston family with me but will talk to my mother to see if the name was mentioned to her. Thank you for all the work you hace done Anne

These are the relevant BMDs extracted from Karen’s pdfs for the earlier generations of the Houston family in Victoria (there seems to be much duplication and mixing of births and deaths in the pdf death document and it would be best to check against http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/ots/home to resolve any confusion) The number tacked on the end of the deaths would be the age.

The last group of two deaths are a possible sister of John Campbell Houston b1877 and a Janet McLuckie (nee Houston) b1825.

It’ll be interesting if the arrival of this lot also can’t anywhere be found.

Hi Alan Thank you for very much for all the work done here with these records much appreciated. Haven't found the Houston arrival as yet there are quite a number of John Houstons arrving in NSW and Vic so am working to identify when he dropped off the Scottish Census records to give me some sort of date. Thank you again Anne

That’s okay Anne,

I almost forgot to mention that the Laidler’s and probably Mary Houston are buried here.

I am a relative of Mary Keenan who Married John Campbell Houston. They lived in Jumbunna, he was a miner, and one of their children Jean Elizabeth Houston who married to Hugh Crocker having son Barry Crocker (singer) (my uncle) and My Mother Laurel Crocker. Its amazing to have found some info on this line here. I have been looking into Mary Houston (nee Keenan)s history. She was burried up in Bendigo Cemetery on 5/09/1973, Interment Number: 043954, Section: LAWN 2: Grave Number: 43954. Anyway I found alot of info on her and some on John C Houston here http://www.thekeenans.id.au/index.htm. I never knew they lived in Jumbunna until I moved out to Wonthaggi 10 min from Jumbunna and my mother mentioned that this was where my relatives on her side had settled. How weird ! so now I have to hit the historical society here. I really hope you find your Christina Campbell. I was so happy to find Mary and be able to visit her grave in Bendigo.
