Re: George Duncan Guthrie
Hi Jim,
I'm traveling right now, so my internet time is limited, but will certainly have a dig around for your ancestors when I can. If you have the information from your mother's Guthries also from the relevant time (Adam's lifetime, I would guess and any further back if you have it) then by all means post it. Even if I am out of touch, there are many others on this board who would love to have a look. In the meantime, keep digging yourself and let's try to see if we can link up Adam's family with yours!
All the best,
Sarah

Re: George Duncan Guthrie
Hello Jim,
I doubt very much that your William Guthrie, who married Helen McFadzean, was related to the Adam Guthrie, mentioned in this topic.
Your William Guthrie, was born in Ireland.
Regards,
Jonn.

Re: George Duncan Guthrie
Hi Jonn.
I assume you're referring to the 1841 census, where William's birthplace is indicated as Ireland. Or do you have some other information on this family? Is there any reason why the family couldn't have come from Ireland between the births of William (1789) and Adam (1791), assuming they were brothers? If they were cousins, I would think it would be even less of a problem that one was born in Scotland and the other in Ireland.
Just wondering why you feel they could not be related.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi jonn
Your research came up with William Guthrie coming from Ireland.
I have found a Robert Guthrie also from ireland B 1816 in the 1851 census do you think there could be a connection.
regards
Jim

Re: George Duncan Guthrie
Hi Waverley
Four months ago I was browsing the net and put in George Duncan Guthrie. Talkingscot came up and I read your question about George Duncan Guthrie of Bendigo Pottery.
I am a great grand son of GDG. As you have had replies on him you now know that there was a lot written. But all the surprises were collated by Bill Derham (Manager of Bendigo Pottery in the mid 80's) and Paul Scholes (Author of the book "Bendigo Pottery"). If you are still chasing information about George and his father Adam you can contact me. But,I do not know the protocol for putting email addresses on this site so I do not know to give you my l Address. Regards Keith

Re: George Duncan Guthrie
Hi everyone.
I too have come across this forum whilst searching for references to George Duncan Guthrie.
My reason for searching for the name was as part of my research into my ggg grandfather George Duncan who ran the Port Dundas pottery in Glasgow between the mid 1830s and his death in 1843. I understand George Duncan Guthrie was an apprentice to George Duncan at the Port Dundas pottery prior to his departure to Australia in 1851/2.
George Duncan was brother to Guthrie's mother Elizabeth Duncan, and were both children of another George Duncan, bootmaker of Glasgow, and his wife Mary Storie/Storey.
George Duncan Guthrie's first wife Agnes Craig is also related to me through her mother, Isabella Duncan, who was the youngest sister of George Duncan Snr., bootmaker of Glasgow.
Over the last few years I have done quite a bit of research into the Duncan side of my family, using the internet as records become available, and would like to contact anyone who may be researching the same family.
I am new to Talking Scot and decided to add this post as well as a PM to Keith.
Regards
Helen
