Not stupid. Reading these old records takes practice as does so much in life.

I don't think you are going to manage to work out who Walter's parents were from the info available on SP and FamilySearch. Annette's idea of trying the poor law records is a good one especially as you're relatively near Glasgow. You can get a lot of information about a family.

Walter's birth and baptism may not have been recorded so he may not be any of the Walters you have found.

Have you noted all of Walter and Isabella's children from Scotland's People? There are more there than on Family Search or even the census.

It is a good idea to check all the most easily available information thoroughly before you start speculating. I know it costs credits to access the records on SP but it is the same for everyone and most of us have to ration our use or wait till we are paid/have money by other means before moving our research on.

i havent noted all of them but i know there was a mathew,william,jean,helen,robert,john,margaret i cant access them yet as i have ran out of credits but 2 of them are under allison and 6 are under allison so there are another one belonging to them and they are all in lochwinnoch :) but i think i will make trip to the mitchell library during next week, how do i access them ?
