I'm sorry Wendy but I have no knowledge of Euphemia McColl at this time. I haven't done much research recently due to ilness so there may be a connection I'm not aware of yet. If I find anything I'll be glad to share.

Re: My husband's Scottish family, for our children
Hello everyone! I've been gone for a while but I've recently become aware of information regarding one of the families in my original post. I thought I'd share it here in case there are other's out there researching the same families. i'm referencing The Family of Robert boyd Williamson and Mary Stevenson, daughter of John Stevenson and Jessie McColl. I stated that Mary Stevenson married 2nd. to a MacPherson. This is the information on the marriage record of her son John S. Williamson and Tryphena McConkey. There was a vague reference to her date of death as 1953, but I couldn't find any other information on her until yesterday. Mary's sister-in-law Jessie Williamson, also married a MacPherson and I have to wonder if Mary married her brother-in-law or another relation of his. Whatever, Mr. MacPherson doesn't seem to have lasted very long. Mary's living in Lanarkshire in 1922, but by 1934 she's living here in Cleveland, Ohio. She married a widower from Holland that had been landlord to her her son John and his family here. Mary married Simon J Klyn on 27 July 1934 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He died a short time later on 7 April, 1935. She did not remarry after his death but she died 24 June 1953 in Lakewood Hospital ( my home just a few streets away). In fact most of the addresses she lived at here, we lived a block or two away at one time or another. I had been Working under two false premises. One, that she died in Scotland, and two, that she was born in 1873. She was actually born 4 March 1881. It really helps to have the correct date and place, Then the information came out easily. So here is one piece of the puzzle in place. Regards, and Good Wishes Sandy

Re: My husband's Scottish family, for our children
Hello
I share an interest in this family through Isabella Grant (my great aunt). I have extracts for her marriage to Robert Boyd Williamson (Sept 1922) and that for John to Tryphena (Apr 1922) but had not picked up that Mary was now McPherson ms Stevenson. Robert and Mary appeared in the 1911 Census at Darlington, England. Darlington is also where Janet (Jessie), James and David were born. They were in Glasgow later in 1911 when Robert snr died. By 1918 Mary was now McPherson according to the death extract for James.
regards
John

Hi John and
to TalkingScot
When someone makes their first post having found a connection to their families it really makes our day. =D> =D>
Helping folk make connections is almost as satisfying as helping break down thos brick walls we all have come up against in our own research.
Hope to see some questions from you as you work further back in the family.

Hi Russell
Thanks for the welcome. I hope to learn and share more on TalkingScot. Finding this thread has filled a few gaps for me about my grandfather's siblings. I knew he had two sisters who emigrated to USA and I was young when they came home for a visit and I was never aware that were married with families of their own. So when I found this a few weeks ago I have managed to research both sisters and add their families to my tree.
Having followed up on Mary Stevenson and the McPherson name, I found a marriage of Mary to Donald McPherson 1913 in Darlington, England

Re: My husband's Scottish family, for our children
John,
Hello and Welcome! How wonderful to connect with another relative. I'm thinking you're from the Grant side? Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
We are from the Williamson side. I wonder if you've also been regaled with the stories about "Cousin Davie"? The one on TV. Your Gr-Aunt, Auntie Bella as she was known to us was a hoot. She and Uncle Bob were the sweetest couple imaginable. And funny and cute. Uncle Bob was the life of the party even in his later years. They are terribly missed. But you said 2 sisters were here in the U.S.? I had heard that Jemima was here also and lived in Michigan. This was told to me by another of your cousins living in Glasgow. We correspond by e-mail occassionally and have talked by phone too. Was this in error? I was actually searching for information on Jemima when I found the marriage record for Mary Stevenson Williamson and Simon J. Klyn. The puzzling thing is their marriage in Erie, Pennsylvania. Puzzling because Auntie Bella and Uncle Bob's son still has connections there but nobody seems to remember if there was another earlier relative there or not. This same cousin sent me a picture of the wedding gathering for Auntie Bella and Uncle Bob in the backyard on Bilsland Drive about 1922 or so. Maybe you can help us identify the other people in the group?
I must tell you, my husband John passed away 3 weeks ago. It was expected. He'd been desperately ill for over a year. But it is still very difficult. Just connecting with others that are his kin and keeping my mind occupied with "family" is helping me heal. Now, having another relative to share his history with is a blessing to me. I hope i'm not putting too much pressure on you. I don't mean to be pushy. But I'm certainly willing to share if you are and these great people at TalkingScots are wonderfully helpful. Maybe we can fill in all those blank spaces in the family tree eventually.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sandy

Re: My husband's Scottish family, for our children
Hi! Me again.
I almost forgot. You said that James and David Williamson were also born in Darlington? I knew that Aunt Jessie (Janet) had been born there in 1904 but didn't know about the other boys. I had also found them on the census in 1911, although I Don't have the means right now to actually see the census. I did find the information on family search. And the way it came up on the search it appears that my husbands grandfather, John Stevenson Williamson may not be listed with his family. maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it doesn't come up on the same page as the rest of his family and he is listed as a visitor where the rest of them are not. And Jimmy died in Darlington? Here again I have to wonder if there were not other family there we are not aware of. Tryphena's brother Samuel McConkey is also supposed to have married there. Do you know of any other family connections in Darlington?
I seem to have more questions than answers right now. Sorry about that. Regards Sandy

Re: My husband's Scottish family, for our children
Hi Sandy
I've sent a pm with some info on the Grants as you correctly guessed my connection.
With regard to the Williamsons, I have limited information but building more as I try to follow the movements of Robert (jnr) before he married aunt Bella. In the 1911 census I see the family at Hercules Street, Darlington. As you point out John's entry appears to have a line scored through. A further search for John Williamson, age 10 gives a John Stevenson Williamson as a visitor with Alfred and Maud Joad (or more likely Judd) at Craig Street, Darlington. I've no idea why he would be with this family on his own.
