Hi Lee

My family left paisley August 1 1833, bound for Glasgow with 2 carts of luggage and one for the women and children :) At Glasgow they boarded the Vulcan Steamship for Liverpool (I think that is a generic name not the name of the ship - I have never quite sorted this out).
It appears the trip to Liverpool only took 24 hours(?) but it was not until August 9 that their belongings were transferred from the Vulcan to the Othello. They appeared to spend a week in lodgings in Liverpool. From 9th they lived on the Othello which eventually left port 27th August 1833.

On Monday 16th October a gale hit & the formast was broken. All men on board worked at repair/cleanup but they were becalmed for 3 weeks. The ship eventually made it to Rio for repair and a new mast - which was 76ft by 2ft of white pine cost 0/8/9 per cubic foot.

Via Hobart, the ship arrived in Sydney 15 Mar 1834. 5 persons died on the voyage. Cost for my family (travelled steerage - 2 adults and 6 children was 112.19.0 luggage cost 3.19.0). He suggested to his brother - if anyone else from Paisley should come - tell them to "take the cabin".

I didn't see any mention of your family in my ancestor's notes.

Trish
