Margaret HOGG - 22 August 1874 in Newtown, East Lothian - married Peter Fairgrieve 30 December 1898 in Newtown. (I am related to Peter).

I have other Hogg's in my tree which I don't have a direct connection to, but uploaded inadvertently from a relative's tree. All are from the area of East Lothian. Is there anything here which you would like more information for?

Jen.
Don't see any direct link Jen, but the Hoggs/Reids and others got all over the place, and were quite keen on marrying each other and their cousins. I'll keep an eye, and let you know if I find any likely links.

Best wishes

I THINK the Fairgrieves lived in Muirkirk Terrace.

Robert's wife was called Bunty.
Jean Fairgrieve and husband Walter??? went to Canada.
My Reid is Samuel who was born in Ireland and married Grace McCredie in Glasgow in 1869 Died Glasgow 1911

Hello Margaret.

I have just recently been speaking with my mother's sister and she tells me, though my grandfather grew up in Glasgow he was born in Ferguslie just outside of Paisley on the 20th June 1894. Any help?
My husband has Wallace from Argyl..... Obviously plenty of Wallace's (or is the plural Walli #-o ) out there!

Regards,
Jen.

Hi all!

It is my first time here

I am doing some research for a Norwegian with Scottish ancestors and in my work, I have come over a puzzle that involves a woman called Agnes Hogg. She died 7 Oct 1871, 23 years old in South Leith.

She was the wife of Robert Learmonth and the daughter of Alexander Hogg and Janet Hume.

In 1894 a Jessie Hume Learmonth marries William Wood in Edinburgh and the record tells us that she is 25 years old and her parents are James Learmonth and Agnes Hogg. Both deceased. In the census records I find a James Learmonth married to Agnes Aitken living with her father Alexander Aitken.

Does any of you know anything about these families ? I need to find Jessie Hume Learmonth's birth record and also solve the mystery of the Learmonth/Hume/Hogg/Aitken families.

It is my first day searching the Scottish records and I am not sure that I do it very efficiently

Hi Jen

My husband's grandfather William Hogg was the brother of Margaret Hogg b. 1874 - married 1898 (as you know) Peter Fairgrieve he being a 28 year old coalminer from Macmerry and she a 24 year old housekeeper. Peter died 25th January 1948 Pencaitland, Margaret 9th April 1961 Pencaitland. My husband remembers as a young boy visiting them at their home in Pencaitland.

Helen Hogg b. 8th Sept 1870 was the sister of Margaret Hogg, she married a Peter Fairgrieve 29th Dec. 1893 at Newtown - he was 32years lived at Penston at the time and was a coalminer. Helen was 23 years and a farm labourer. This Peter Fairgrieve was the uncle of Margaret's husband Peter Fairgrive.

There are a number of decendant's of William Hogg living in the Brisbane and N.S.W. area three of whom attended school in Macmerry.

Regards

Anita
