There is a pic here of Dreghorn Castle:

It seems to fall into Colinton area. Maybe worth finding out, if you don't already have notes, which Halyburtons/Haliburtons were born in that area as that George was there for a while it seems: 1712-1740, but maybe they are there already in your list from Edinburgh? A search on SP shows no Hal*burton births in Colinton. Hmm...

Lesley
I'm reading that very website as I type this! This is the closest I've come to anyone famous or with money in my 20 years of searching and he's proving harder to track than any of my masons or weavers!

At NAS:
Probably has nothing interesting in it but adds a little colour - I wonder what the heck they did with the beans???GD18/5824 Letters (2) to Sir John Clerk from George Haliburton [Halliburton], provost of Edinburgh, inviting him to the celebration of the King's birthday, and requesting his presence at a meeting of the committee 'to follow out what remains necessary to be done in disposeing of the meal and beans that are on hand'. 1741

Hey Hey Lesley
I've only glanced at the Will but one name leapt out at me Rutherfoord - see the early posts here - think that might be his wife! Yipee! I know you can't see me, but I'm dancing with joy ....
Couldn't wait to let you know!
Liz
PS - If you hadn't been encouraging me here I'd have left this until next weekend and probably wasted hours this week - many thanks!

A few boulders in the outline of Dreghorn Castle is all that exists now about half a mile from here, in woodlands just outside Drehorn Barracks perimeter fence. After it fell into disrepair (beyond economic repair) it was set light to one weekend in the 1950s as an army training exercise. The following weekend it was reduced to rubble using explosives - another army exercise.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew
From reading the link that Lesley gave me, it seems that George Haliburton lived in Redford House - is that close by or has it gone now too? I don't really know Edinburgh well, only lived there for a year while at college. Is it around the Redford Barracks area?
