On the IGI / LDS Caths Mother Janet Bell is stated as- Birth: 1826 Canchatton Island Of, Luing, Argyll, Scotland. Marriage: 24 MAY 1846. Barony, Lanark, Scotland to Robert Morrison. But, I never take IGI / LDS as a prove document. Always spend GROS points and here, haven't got there as yet. I'm a duffa, I just didn't put the Ling & Luing together until Mary mentioned it. [
Thanks Davie, my email or post, up to yourself. I think my email is visible. If not- remove the 1 in front of hunterlink.net.au ...

As it is the info will be shared by Family members. Many thank you's.

Want to know something reeellyy strange... As I've been writing over the last few days a constant song has been ringing in my head. Another weirdo Bronwen thang...My Mum taught me this (perhaps its collective consciousness), or some 'dead' Family talking (no I'm not into the after-life)... " I yillalist to yillaliv in yillalancashillalie, the ppplace where yillili was blll i l was billilorn..." etc.

Probably just your accented writing got my head singing out old phonetics! . Another thing... a few years ago, bored with genealogy as such, I took an on line Scots " history test". Not about places (hopeless), buildings (ditto)..but lollies, games and food. I passed !!! Went to my Mum's and told her. She just went.. oh yeah, sure, how nice for you. < with a knowing look>

Bron ... and yup I do know where Lancashire is....

:)

My GG Grandfather, Donald MacDonald was born on Luing around 1841.

The real bummer is, I didn't know we had any links to the area until after I had lived on Seil for four years then came back to Bristol and really got serious about doing this. Up to that point I had only been concentrating on my paternal line.

I could have found out so much while I was there if only I'd started with my Mother's family. #-o

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

Apparently Mary there is a quote somewhere where, if one starts from the female line, that's where the truth lies. But as we know women bullshit as much as blokes. Probably less than as so ...

I have always kept this in mind while doing my genealogy stuff, the difference between One Name Study and reather obvious reality. and most are male person origins.

Why the heck do traces in time on one surname?! For example, a few years on from really only accepting two Websites of one name studies genealogical . The entity of the webpage is a one name study, with husbands, partners and wifes subsumed. How silly. < sorry, I'm raving .. must go to bed now... >

In my view both male and female persons need researching. It's been easier in the past for me to just kick back and do the blokes when I couldn't fathom the women. Quite clearly re-focussed by Davie recently with his/her careful search for my Catherine nee: Morrison Muir and second marriage Renwick. And thank you for my Morrison Bell Renwick geography bump along. [/i][/i]

Oh I don't know about the female line being more accurate/truthful.

One of my lot changed her age to suit the man she was marrying. She reduced her age from 25 to 20 when she married a 19 year old, but ALMOST told the truth later when she remarried at 41 (actually 43). She also couldn't make up her mind what her father's name was over her two MC's and her mother's DC.

When she gave the name for her grandmother on that DC, I assumed she'd got that wrong too, but she hadn't!

Both her grandfathers married girls with exactly the same name, four years apart. Well, I'm assuming it WAS two different girls; not found either of their births yet

Yup Mary, that's how I found things as well. Women bull dust and men gust.. a World wide phenomena. Must send some people barmy. I think its funny but ask my household when I come out deranged from my office. They think I'm barmy for even doing this stuff !!

And so does my 82 year old Mum, although she gets a thrill and got two very important Nephews out of my research. Now I can't even get a word in edge wise with them.
