You might like to have a look at the site about the Great Eyemouth Fishing Disaster of Oct 14 1881 on http://www.geocities.com/scotborder/Eyemouth.html

It lists the names of the men lost during a terrible storm.

Thanks Mary,
I do in fact have a copy of the disaster, my Great grandfather William Crombie is shown as losing his life on the 'Florida' out of Eyemouth.
Thanks for reminding me about it, I will check out on the names that have shown up with my searches to see in any appear in the listings.
Dave.

That poor family had a lot to cope with.

Sadly, William's brother James had died only a year earlier on 29 Dec 1880 when he fell into Eyemouth harbour.

Just a wee update on that. The first Robert died of Whooping Cough on 9 Nov 1870.

On the subject of Jane/Alison/Alice Crombie 1857. I have a wee theory about why she was registered as Jane but later called Alison. I think Dad named her after her maternal grandmother instead of her paternal grandmother. Dare say this might have caused a wee bit of a family huff, so she got unofficially renamed to Alison to smooth some very ruffled feathers  .

Hello again Mary.
The first Robert Crombie did in fact die in 1970 (739/00 0038)
On the 1881 census is shows Alexander Landels and Alison Landels (nee Crombie) with two boarders:-
Alexander Colin Crombie Born 1875.
Robert Crombie Born 1872.
Checked out their birth details and they are both siblings of the above Alison and therefore sons of James & Agnes (nee Colin).
(Bet you know all this already eh!!)
Quick cuppa and get stuck in again.
Bye for now. Dave

OOPS! yes it should be 1870.
I have all the others names you listed except that I have a Jane Crombie not Collin b-1/07/1863.
She married Alexander Thompson b-1857. Are we talking about the same person?
Dave.
