Hi Wendy

You can purchase the CD set of the 1881 British census, including Scotland, for £29.95 from:

LDS Distribution Centre, 399 Garrets Lane, Birmingham, B33 0UH.

Phone: 0121 785 2200
Fax: 0121 789 7686

Very speedy service - had mine within 48 hours of phone call.

And have found them worth their weight in gold.

Best wishes
Jean

I need some help again .. i'm a pest :D

It's my William Adam(s) again ... I can't find birth or death details for him.
i'll re-cap on his details incase someone can help me.
The surname has popped up as both Adam & Adams in some searches.

William Adam(s) born 1848 in Old Deer. Was a Master Blacksmith
Parents are: William Adam & Ann Clark .. possibly both born around c1827. They were married on 31.7.1847 in Aberdeen (this date came from an IGI individual record that shows limited info) I dont have any further info on these two yet.

Spouse: Jane Smith Saint b.1851 born in Cruden, Aberdeenshire
William & Jane were married in Clochen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire on 28.6.1876

In the 1891 Census he was 45 and alive, but by the 1901 census he had died.

Hi there

Your William's death can be found under Adams this time within that 10 year range. His age is 45 and he's right in the Parish where you'd expect him to be.

Best wishes
Jean

What was the occupation of William's father from his MC?

I'm thinking that this might possibly be the family as indexed on Ancestry in the 1851 census but only if the occupation lines up for his dad.

Name: Welliam Adam
Age: 35
Estimated birth year: abt 1816
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name: Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: Banchory, Aberdeenshire
Parish Number: 168A
Civil parish: Aberdeen West
County: Aberdeenshire
Address: Geo Street 283
Occupation: Iron Porter
ED: 6A
Page: 42 (click to see others on page)
Household schedule number: 203
Line: 9
Roll: CSSCT1851_39
Household Members: Name Age
Ann Adam 30 wife
Mary Ann Adam 2 dau
Welliam Adam 35 head
William Adam 4 son

You can also search for a death for his mother on SP since you know her maiden name and married name.

Best wishes
Jean

Saints and Smiths

Post by speleobat2 » Mon Aug 13, 2007 11:17 pm

Just to take you back one notch further (and maybe confuse everything), I found an entry in the New Deer MI booklet for a gravestone with George Saint, farmer in Clochcan died 1828, his wife Jean Smith died 1855, their son Thomas died 1875, and daughters Elizabeth died 1877, Margaret died 1886, Jessie died 1891. It doesn't say if any of the kids were married or not, this could account for the Jessie and Smith names in your relatives.

Morning Jean .. On Williams death certificate, it says Williams father (William) was a blacksmith, but could that be a fancy name for an Iron Porter do you think?

I only have an extract of William Adams & Ann Clark's marriage details saying the date & where they were married on the IGI.

Hi Carol, I will check your info out when i get in from work tonight .. but it certainly sounds like my lot .. Their daughter Janet was known as Jessie in some of her records. Thank you!

Wendy

I couldnt find William and Ann marriage on BVRI CD's but that not unusual.
They are on SP in the Old Parish Records though.

1 31/07/1847 ADAM WILLIAM ANN CLARK/FR8085 M Aberdeen ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/A00 0310 0205

I didnt have the credits to view the certi, but if it is like other opr marriages and banns it wont give you any more detail than you already have. They seldom have parents names although you could be lucky.

info on certificates

Post by speleobat2 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:51 am

Wendy,

If your people were married in Aberdeen City, you might be lucky. My great great grandparents were married there in 1840 and the certificate information appeared to be entered on to a pre-printed form so whoever filled it out just filled in the blanks. Along with names and dates, it had the brides's father's name, occupation and residence, the Reverend who married them and the church name and location and two witnesses names, occupations and residences. Wish all OPR's were this complete!
