Hello Lesley,
Have you seen the original image for the 1910 census entry? If you know the State, County, Town, and Family number from the FamilySearch site it’s fairly easy to track down the image at the Internet Archive. http://www.archive.org/stream/13thcensu ... 9/mode/2up
Unless I’ve got this upside down they are both males recently arrived from Russia and don’t speak any English. There are some other Russian Kesleys scattered about the page as well, so it’s either a fairly common Russian name or maybe that’s just how it sounded to whoever did the writing down.
Alexander Kesley, boarder, male, white, age 34, married 6 years. Born Russia, as were his parents. Arrived USA 1907, not naturalised, and speaks only Russian.
Vasel Kesley, boarder, male, white, age 33, married 7 years. Born Russia, as were his parents. Arrived USA 1909, not naturalised, and speaks only Russian.
If he’s a Scotsman posing as a Russian I’ll eat my hat.
All the best,
Alan

Re: Kesley Godfrey Ebert
Hi Alan
I have the extract from Scotland's people of Helena Godfrey ( my Great, Great Aunt ) and Alexander's marriage, his mother is listed on it as: Mary Beveridge. I have checked ancestry and believe Alexander's mother was born in North Seaton, Northumberland, England. Death bef 1891 in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His father is James Kesley Birth abt 1828 Sanquhar, Dumfries. When Alexander and Helena got married his father was an unemployed coal miner.
1898 Age: 70 Occupation Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland Unemployed Coal Miner
1898 Age: 70 Residence Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 Miller Street,
Also found this record on Ancestry, could be Alexander Kesley :
A Kesley
Campaign or Service: South Africa - Second Boer War
Service Date: 1899-1902
Service Location: South Africa
Regiment or Unit Name: 3rd Battalion Kings Royal Rifle
Regimental Number: 1696
regards Lesley
