Nicole,

You don't have to order the marriage cert. for John Mowat Fulton and Helen Mcmanus. It's available for viewing on SP for five credits or you can PM me your email address and I'll send it to you as an attachment. I have it on my desktop.

Have you seen Neil and his family on the US 1930 census in Cleveland, OH? If you click on "view others on this page" it looks like his mother Annie and brother Frank and another brother Edward lived on the same street.

Carol :D
Looking for: Clerihew, Longmuir/Longmore, Chalmers, Milne, Barclay in Newhills,
Munro, Cadenhead, Raitt, Ririe/Reary

Hi Nicole and Carol,
The marriage of George and Marion can also be downloaded from ScotlandsPeople (as edited into my last message-- not sure if you saw that.)

In 1851 George Fulton Sr, wife Mary and son George are in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England. George Sr was born Ayrshire, as stated in 1871, and both Mary and son George were born in Glasgow. George is 10 years old.

Cheers,
Sarah

Just one more thing and then I'll leave you alone :D

From the IGI:

George McWaters Fulton was born 4 Apr 1840 in Barony, Lanark
Father: George Fulton
Mother: Mary McWaters

The marriage of George and Mary in 1839 gives her surname as McWalters. The family is easily findable in 1841 in Barony, although George Sr is mistakenly stated as having been born in Lanarkshire.

Best wishes,
Sarah

What is the IGI?

I found the following in the 1881 census(not sure if they are my family or not)

George 47
Annie 25
George 23
William 22
Helen 17
Allan 14
Hugh 12
Alexander 9
John 7

Also found the following in the 1891 census

George 57
Helen 27
Allan 25
Hugh 22
Alex 19
John 17 Occupation for John is Engine Fitter Apprentice

Unfortunately on Ancestry we can't view the original image so I can't get the occupations for the others in this family.

I will try to find them on SP census ad see if I can view the original image.

Hi again,
The IGI is the International Genealogical Index on the old version of the FamilySearch.org website: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/ ... ch_igi.asp

Here is the link to a topic in the Talking Scot Library on the subject:

viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10332

Not sure what you mean about not being able to see the other people's occupations in the census on Ancestry. If you click on the person, the full transcription should be there.

Best wishes,
Sarah

You were right Sarah, I nclicked on each person and this is what I got for each:

1881 census

George Fulton b abt 1834 shoemaker age 47
Annie Fulton b abt 1856 Housekeeper age 25
George Fulton b abt 1858 Draughtsman Engineers age 23
William Fulton b abt 1859 Clerk Engineer Work age 22
Helen Fulton b abt 1864 cotton Weaver age 17
Allan Fulton b abt 1867 Tailor Apprentice age 14
Hugh Fulton b abt 1869 Scholar age 12
Alexander Fulton b abt 1872 Scholar age 9
John Fulton b abt 1874 Scholar age 7

1891 census

George Fulton b abt 1834 Shoemaker age 57
Helen Fulton b abt 1864 (no occupation listed) age 27
Allan Fulton b abt 1867 Tailor age 25
Hugh Fulton b abt 1869 Shoemaker age 22
Alex Fulton b abt 1872 Patternmaker Apprentice age 19
John Fulton b abt 1874 Engine Fitter Apprentice age 17

I don't know if this is my John Fulton or not but it is worth checking into. Maybe Marion died before 1881 because there is no spouse listed for George in either 1881 or 1891 census.

Hi Nicole,
I think we're getting a bit mixed up here  From the previous page:
SarahND wrote: Marion Fulton, other surname Darroch, born 1840, died in 1912.
(remember we found the boys with different aunts and daughter Mary, who was with her paternal grandparents in 1871, was with Marion in Paisley in 1881)

From the IGI, using a parent search, these are the children born to George and Marion:

Mary McWalters Fulton 29 Sep 1865 Govan
George Fulton 1 Mar 1867 Greenock
Duncan Fulton 1 Oct 1868 Govan
John Fulton 15 Oct 1870 Govan

All the best,
Sarah

I think this is probably Marion and daughter Mary in 1891, at the same address as they were in 1881. Marion's age has been mis-transcribed as 31, rather than 51-- The numbers 3 and 5 are often mixed up on the transcriptions.

1891
14 George Street, Paisley High Church, Renfrewshire
Marion Fulton, 31 [51], Head, born Clachan, Argyleshire, Millworker
Mary McCallum, 25, Daughter, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Seaman's Wife
James McCallum, 4 months, Grandson, born Paisley, Renfrewshire

And in 1901 Marion is still on George Street, living alone:

1901
14 George Street, Paisley, Renfrewshire
Marion Fulton, 60, Head, born Clachan, Argyllshire, Thread Mill Worker

In another few weeks, when the census is released, you'll be able to find her in 1911 :D But you can download her 1912 death now.

Regards,
Sarah
