glaswegians
I am finally getting a chance to come up to Glasgow on Wednesday, but the occasion is very sad for me so won't be seeing much of the city and certainly won't be enjoying it.

First, let me state - I am NOT a Glaswegian! (Ah'm a Fifer)
Glasgow - violent? Nope! Would walk through its streets at 2am and not feel concerned. (Ditto London, Coventry, Sheffield, and many other places)
Have been through East Los Angeles (in a car, and with no intention of stopping). Have been in Detroit (but like many locals, would not visit the city centre!)
The procedure in the UK is this:
The police are REQUIRED to take official record of ALL crimes and offences. Thus, a bit o' a stushie between a group of mildly intoxicated people could end up with a dozen or two 'offences' for one spot on one night. Pushing - as in shoving, not drugs - can be considered 'assault'. Drunkeness, several more. And they are red hot on 'peein' up a close (was on the telly, recent...)
So match up a bucket load of 'crimes' in the UK and compare it with some of the world's garden spots where getting dead is statistically non-existent unless you happen to be in the top social 5% ...
I think Glesca will still be a good place to be (but watch oot whit ye dae up a close!)
