Hi Jack and Bob
I may have, lurking in the distant branches of my tree, something which links up here- maybe, maybe not....

With reference to:
John SMELLIE - Birth:13 Jul 1775
Christening: 23 Jul 1775 Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Father William SMELLIE
Mother Marrion BROWN

I wonder if the following is a brother to John above?

I have a Robert Smellie who married a Helen Algie about 1793 - their children are named
William 1794,
Elizabeth 1796,
William 1798
Marion 1803
John 1805
Robert 1805,
Mack 1907 (would like to see the OPR for that one! - Mack? really?)
James 1809 - 1866.
all born Govan (IGI batch C116464 1750 - 1819 )

James (1809 - 1866) married my 2nd gr aunt, Janet Davy/Davie (b.1814, dau of James Davie and Susannah Guy) from Cardross in Glasgow in 1840. The names in this Smellie family continue to ring bells - James and Janet's first son was called John Hamilton Smillie (b.abt 1841, so maybe no connection, m. Marion Adams 1872, Blythswood) and in the next generation there is a Maryann - but that is maybe just coincidence.

Best wishes
Lesley
