Just to add some more to the pot - I have Agnes Hannah in my tree ! She was born in October 1823 in Denny , parents William Hannah & Janet Scott , and died in Denny 23rd January 1858 from a haemorrhage following childbirth - would this be to your Thomas ? I don't have any of her children . My direct line is through her brother Robert. She is buried in Loanhead . I do have some more info on the Hannahs if you want - but only back one more generation from William & Janet.
It's good to be able to join in with a connection !

Hah! This is becoming really fascinating :!: We just need some Duncans and Frasers to wade in now :D

Morag I would love to hear about Agnes - the more tangents the better I think. I was kinda hoping when I started this thread I might just find out where Robert McGregor went to, but it's become more "where did he come from"!

Had some domestic drivvle to see to today, but credit card is in for a walloping now. I'm going to try and get to the bottom of Duncan McGregor so wish me luck

And if anyone else is holding back, wondering if they can contribute anything useful at this stage ... please ... step right up!

Small world though, innit :D

And Sarah - stranger things have been known - you just have to get far enough back/sideways/up/down - we're all Jock Tamson's bairns (or in this case, Robert/William/Duncan McGregor's :D Who is Jock Tamson by the way - do we have him in the 1841?

Best wishes

Hi

Agnes Hannah was the 6th child of William Hannah & Janet Scott who had 9 children all together . The family were all miners.
Agnes married James Duncan in 1844 in Denny ( but they may have had a son James in 1842 according to the 1851 census ! ) They also had William born in 1847 , and your Thomas in 1851. Agnes died in childbirth in 1858. I think James may have married again as I found who I think is him in 1861 with another son John age 4 , but a wife called Ann - and another 1 year old son whose name I couldn't make out. I didn't ever investigate much further as he wasn't really mine.On Agnes' death certificate it has her buried in Loanhead - I don't know why as they don't ever seem to have travelled far from Denny.
Her father William died between 1841 & 1851 , and her mother died a pauper in 1877 at the ripe old age of 87 !
I also have some info on 4 of her brothers all of them miners

Hope this helps

Thanks for all that info Morag. Re Agnes' burial place - could it mean Dennyloanhead? :? Dennyloanhead and Denny kinda run into each other so it would make sense, though I'm not sure whether there would have been a cemetery or churchyard in Dennyloanhead itself. Maybe one of the graveyard/headstone experts would know.

Thanks again

Did I hear someone taking about gaveyards . . . . ?

If Agnes is buried in Dennyloanhead Churchyard then there definately isn't a stone. There are only about half a dozen stones left there now.

The Churchyard was cleared back in the sixties to make way for a car park then the Church itself closed and was opened up as a Fireplace showroom. This showroom has recently closed and the Church is to be converted into flats.

Good news however - Dennyloanhead Burial Records are available in Falkirk Archives. I was having a look at them the other day and there's records of at least 280 individuals buried there.

If you get a chance go and have a look!

I am sure it is Dennyloanhead - it's difficult to make out on the certificate - but I have another mining family from Loan head so I was confused !

Thanks Anne

Really all the Hannahs from Denny appear to be mine ! My brickwall is with Agnes' grandparents who were Thomas Hannah & Margaret Mirk ( or Janet Mirk ). There were 2 Thomas Hannahs born in Denny within a year of each other - 1756 & 1757 - so any mention of them would be great. Also William Hannah - husband of Janet Scott - he died between 1841 & 1851 - again an exact date would be great and he may have been buried in Dennyloanhead if his daughter Agnes was.
Thanks again Anne - are the archives at Callender House ?
