Sorry the Lachlan Grant's, death was not your Lachlan.
The 1881. census for Lachlan, that you found was that the one for Strath, Inverness, where he is 84 years, of age a Fisherman, and living with son Donald Grant, and family. thats the census i was going by.
If that is your Lachlan Grant, then you would think that he would have died in Strath, as he seems to have lived there all his life.
The problem is there is no other death for a Lachlan Grant, in that area, using all sorts of wildcards, up until 1908, there is a 80 year old, but its very unlikely this one is him the age is over twenty years out.
Its possible the index for his death has been omitted from Scotlandspeople, by human error, its happened before.
