Hello Sandy
Welcome back, pleased to see you are on the forum again and still researching. Since your previous posts I had done quite a lot of googling with the names that were given in the obituaries and added several more famillies to my tree.
With regard to your 1871 census find of J Klyn, I've seen an image that shows him as a sailor, age 23, born in Holland (place difficult to read but ends ....chilling) and spending census night on board ship named 'Johanna Margaretha' berthed at South Shields. There were 5 crew consisting of Captain, mate, 2 sailors and a cook. On the basis that J Klyn was just visiting South Shields, Holland might be the origin for the Klyn family.
Next, thinking of why Mary used the Williamson surname instead of McPherson or Stevenson, I wonder if it could be because she was with or going to stay with sons Robert or John who entered USA as Williamsons. Do you know when they all arrived in USA?
My husband's Scottish family, for our children
