Hi Alastair,

George Brown Thomson:

• 1870 birth can be found in Dryfesdale (the parish and registration district that included Lockerbie).
• 1871 census, he is there as George B Thomson in Dryfesdale.
• 1881 census, he was a short distance away in Lochmaben.
• 1891 census, he was still in Lochmaben, as George Thomson.
• 1901 census, he was in Edinburgh, still with his parents.
• 1902 marriage in Edinburgh.
• 1911 census, you have found him in 14 Murdoch Terrace, Edinburgh.
• 1947 death in hospital in Edinburgh (normal address still in 14 Murdoch Terrace)

So it looks like George Brown Thomson probably spent all his days in Scotland.

Hi Andrew I guess I will never find out about George Elliot when he was staying with their family. I guess the only way to really find out if he was still with them when he was 10 years old will be when they release the 1921 census.

a second thought here........But why would Margaret Jane Elliot offload her new born son onto this family...there must be some connection ????

She's Maggie age 4 born Lewis, in 1891 at Morvern, Argyll.

Actually I think we've been here before as she is living at The Manse, Morvern in 1901. Did you ever contact Argyll Council to see if they had Parish Records for around the time George was born?
