I need some help please..
I have a marriage cert dated 18/12/1882 for HUGH BARCLAY CAW 32, [widower] to Mary Loag, 39 widow of Samuel Loag / Logue.
I've tried SP for Hugh's 1st marriage . no luck.
In the 1871 Census he's in Perth with wife Mary, no maiden name, both aged 21.
1881 Census 74 Parson Rd Glasgow he's age 30 , a lodger, UNMARRIED?? should that have been widower? Or have I got the wrong Hugh Barcaly Caw?
Thanks
Where can I find a marriage record?

Hi Brenda,
The online IGI shows two children to Hugh Caw and Mary Ann Young in Perth - Jane (1871) and Matthew (1873). The marriage of H B Caw and Mary Ann Young can be found in Perth. I didn't find any obvious sign of her death.
The extraction of births from the Scottish civil records onto the IGI stops at the end of 1874, so there could be more children to this couple beyond that date.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hello Brenda,
Not an answer to your question but there appears to be someone else interested in Hugh Caw here

Hi Brenda,
You may already have this, but just in case - this is from Ancestry:
Reg. # 626A/2; ED 1; Page 20; Line 6
1891 Census: Moodiesburn, Lanarkshire
Hugh B. Caw, Hd, 40, Railway Storesman, born Perth
Mary Caw, Wf , 47, ----------------------born Glasgow
David Caw, son , 6, ----------------------born Glasgow
William Caw, son , 4, ----------------------born Glasgow
Mary M Caw, daur, 2, ----------------------born Glasgow
Mary Loag, Step daur, 26, ----------------------born Glasgow
As to Hugh's marital status on 1881 being unmarried rather than a widower, I also have an ancestor who on a few of the census records stated "unmarried" when I know he was a widower....maybe they just considered themselves as single eligible young men
Regards,
Anne H

Many thanks to all of you for the information.
I now have the marriage date for HughB Caw & Mary Ann Young.
However I''m still stumped by the 1901 Census where Hugh, age 50, Railway Stores Man , is living with William Smith age 14, grandson??
The 1891 Census states William CAW age 4 , SON???

Hi Brenda,
Are you looking at the official 1901 census record from SP, or the one from Ancestry? If Ancestry, then I'd be inclined to go ahead and get the real thing from SP only because in my experience with Ancestry their transcriptions can be very inaccurate....I've seen 3 year old daughters who have been named as Head or wife, and even surnames no where close to the real thing
I notice from Ancestry that there are several Caw's originally from Perth ending up in Glasgow. Have you checked into those...possibly relatives
How about Jane and Matthew from Hugh's first marriage? There are a couple of potentials for them...or do you already know they were deceased?
Regards,
Anne H

My goodness…look at all that brilliant work that’s been done on these families
Thanks for pointing it out Annette
I’ve obviously just duplicated the efforts of everyone else…so glad I didn’t go any further. Perhaps Brenda couldn’t find her original post to keep it all together. Actually, now that you’ve pointed it out, I do vaguely remember the names Caw and Loag and tried to follow it, but it was way too complicated for me to get my head around
Thank goodness for all you experts out there
Regards,
Anne H
