Looking for descendants of Charles Glasgow born Argyll 1860 died in Paisley 1943, his sister Sarah married my great grandfather William Ferguson 1876 and immigrated to the USA in 1882. Charles Parents were William Glasgow and Elizabeth Waterhouse...Charles married Mary Tannock, they lived in Paisley where all their children were born children were Mary, John, Robert, Charles, Eliza, Jeanie, Walter and James, all born by 1901 and several had the middle name of Waterhouse...Chalres was a member of ICAM and was noted for the models he made of the Royal Coaches etc. in the 1920s and 30s and were exhibited for George VI's accession...any info would be appreciated as would info on his family going back earlier than his parents.

Found these two references to your ancestor by googling his name and coachbuilder.

Hope these are of interest.

Annie :)

From the IGI William Perrey Glasgow married Elizabeth Waterhouse
19 NOV 1857 Milton, Glasgow, Lanark - This marriage certificate would be available for download from ScotlandsPeople - information should include the name of the parents of both bride and groom, so this will help with tracing the parents back.

There are a number of siblings for Charles given on the IGI. They seem to be birth and baptism records, except a baptism only for Sarah in 1865 - which seems a little strange - I hope I have the correct family.

Annie and Trish,

Thank both or you very much for your postings,

Annie that google link gave us a story the family hasn't heard!

Trish,

You have the correct family, although a couple of dates are off Charles and Elizabeth were married on 19 Nov 1857 in Milton, Glasgow, Lanark...as for my great grandmother Sarah, she was in fact born in 1853 in Glasgow, just a tad pre wedding one might say. Thanks for the info.

I recently came across your posting looking for descendants of Charles Glasgow, Coachbuilder, Paisley while trying to find out about the model of the Royal State Coach built by my great grandfather and bequeathed to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

My brother, Charles and I (Jean) are descendants of his through our mother, Mary Glasgow, daughter of Charles Glasgow, son of Charles Glasgow, Coachbuilder.

We have no real further information beyond William Glasgow and Elizabeth Waterhouse except mention of a possible ancestor, John Glasgow (died 1721 aged about 68) who married to a Jean Cunningham of Ayrshire and they had a son, Robert - but none of this has ever been verified as far as we know.

There are pictures of our great grandfather on a visit to family in the USA as well as some pictures of the Ferguson family in our possession!!

Thanks for your info, I'll get back to you when things are a little less hectic with my schedule, are any of your pictures posted online?...As soon as I can dig out my info on Charles I'll get back to you. We have fphotos of Charles with his models and my Father remembers meeting him when he was around 10 years old. This is really exciting news for us here.

I do have pictures which are scanned. The pictures of the Ferguson family are dated (on the back) 12 May 1937 and I think the pictures of my great grandfather in the USA must date from the same period. I also have a picture of William Glasgow and Elizabeth Waterhouse as well as many pictures of my great grandfather with his coaches.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

jurbain

If you haven’t been there already the Edinburgh Gazette has various entries regarding his Coach-building business and there appear to be some sequestration (bankruptcy) records in the National Archives of Scotland. http://www.edinburgh-gazette.co.uk/issu ... ow/start=1

There is a scattering of references to him in the 19th Century British Library newspapers. There’s nothing major that I can see, mainly small advertisements for skilled staff, and offering for sale various types of horse drawn vehicles. http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/

I couldn’t find anything anywhere regarding the model coaches referred to except for this item suggesting the exhibition may have been 1935 Silver Jubilee related. http://www.biblio.com/details.php?dcx=2 ... d=prg-1004

Sorry to take so long getting back to you, but I was subsequently diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, which has been treated
It's taking my vision a while to restore itself to normal so reading and typing are difficult however I'll do my best to keep in touch and forward the info I have, as my condition improves.
