Hi All,
I have tried every way possible to find the parents of John Jackson born abt 1784 married to Helen Gilchrist 8th May 1802 at Carluke, Lanarkshire. The family came from area of Carluke, Lanarkshire. I have his Marriage details from the OPR's but typically there is no parental info on it. If anyone can help I would be very grateful as I am just about pulling my hair out - what I have left, that is!
John
Need help to find parents of John Jackson - Lanarkshire

Hi John,
Is Mary, born 10 Oct 1802 in Carluke their only child? She's the only one I find on the IGI anyway. Do you know when Helen died?
I sympathize with you looking for people with such common names... no way to know from the OPR if you're finding the right person or not.
In the 1851 census, which is the first to give the town of birth, there are only 5 Jacksons who were born in Carluke:
Three children of William (born Carnwath) and Mary (born Lesmahagow) Jackson
Janet, age 4
Ann, age 2
Will Neil, age 9 Mo
James, age 51, an Ag Lab in Avondale
James, age 24, a Limework Labourer in Carluke
Do you know if any of these are related to your John & Helen?
A lot of questions
But sometimes it helps to branch off sideways to find clues!
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for helping out!
No Sarah, mary is one of 4 children:
Mary b 10th Oct. 1802
James b 26th Aug. 1804
William b 23rd Aug. 1807
John b 29th Oct. 1809
I feel that I may have a contender but need to some how or other find John's DOB. This is purely speculation, but there is a John Jackson born 27th Nov. 1784 in Stonehouse (in the IGI's he is shown as born 1st Sept. 1784), Lanarkshire son of William Jackson and Jannet Shearer (Prob. Janet). There is one problem with this theory though - This John was married to Elizabeth Stark in 1805 and not Helen Gilchrist in 1802. This could be my John and having his DOB would confirm it. Perhaps something happened to Helen.
I don't think the persons you have listed have a connection.
Kind Regards,
John
