Hi again
Looking for a bit of advice:-before I lost everything when my old computer went up in smoke I had some info from a distant relative telling me that my GG,G/father Thomas Mains spouse Mary Marr had a christening date of 11/10/1801 and she had a death date of 24/10/1861.I can find a christening date the same on the IGI but I am unable to get a death cert on SP anywhere remotely near this date.Unfortunately I have lost all contact details of my rellie so can't ask how she got the details, and to confirm the christening date I nead the parents names from the death cert.Sorry to be so long winded but I'm at a loss where to try next, any ideas ?
regards sf

If it helps any, it took me seven months to find my 2x great grandmother because her family name was Jessie, but her real legal name was Janet!
Is it worth it? My answer is an unqualified YES! However, I love mysteries and a good puzzle. And I have my sister cheering me on. I'm retired, but she is still working full time so she can't sit at the computer like I can. Recently I made a list of 18 or 19 variations of Clerihew which I'm working with. Sure it makes me crazy at times, but the people here on Talking Scot are wonderfully generous with their help and they love challenges so I just keep digging-- and yell for help every now and then!

Hi sf
I look on it as a game of hide and seek
The obvious hiding places are easy to find. Others are much more difficult, but you get a real
sense of achievement when you finally find what you are looking for.
We obviously love the game, otherwise we wouldn't keep coming back for more
Best wishes
