Hi Derek

I don't have an answer to your question, but maybe someone else can help shortly. Some more details may help? What's her full name and she lived where?

Hi Derek

We have searched for lots of relatives in the South of Ayrshire and down into Kirkcudbrightshire and have not come across a Clanachan but there are McLanachans in and around Muirkirk and Cumnock.
We have not been able to trace them back far enough to find out if they were originally Irish and there are all sorts of variants on the spelling too McLenihan/McClanichan/McClanaghan.
Haven't found many McLeans in that part of the world either.

I have a Grace McLean also names Clanachan in Wigtownshire. Do you have more information on your 1876 marriage? Names etc? Gailen

Hello,

I have a Grace McLean also knwn as Clanachan (and several other spellings) in Wigtownshire. Grace was born circa 1766, she was married to George Jess and they had six children between 1781 and 1804. Grace died in 1850 aged 84 years. Her children were Robert b. 1791, Elisabeth b. 1795, Grissel (Grace) b. 1799, Mary b. 1802, Janet b. 1803 and Agnes b. 1804. Agnes married James McLean.
